That's news to me.
COP just destroyed the ticket writing 120000 pounds.
That's the scalehouse's job for that kind of weight (Ive been written high up inside the coop there a few times)
Go to the court. That 530 is potentially a tosser due to the Cop writing 120,000
Besides your tandems is part of the design functions on the 53 foot trailer. If they were all the way up to the end of the rails. So what. Tell em I said so.
Most of the time it's the other way around that is a REAL problem on some of the tighter ramps and roads when the tandems are all the way back. If you are ever along 30 in the York-Philly area you would already know the value of tandems all the way up.
If you were real light on your gross weight with not much of a load in that trailer, bring the BOL with you to the court. That will ensure the policeman's eyeball 120,000 is further tossed. How does HE know what the #### thing is weighing? His foot?
HA.
I should shut the heck up now before I get into trouble...
Every time Ive been pulled by a Md State cop, they carefully add up the weights of the tractor, trailer and whatever is on my bills of lading to be sure it's under the magic number of 80000
Got a ticket in Maryland, REAR OVERHANG EXCEEDS 35%.

Every OTR trucker should have a truckers atlas. It is that important. However every company I ever drove for had this information state by state indexed to the color bars on the trailer. Most of the time these pages were in the back section of the permit book.
-
Here is the MD 35 percent law.
It is also important to understand that with the axles moved all the way forward, you may not fall under the USC exemption allowing 34,000 pounds on a tandem.
The USC exemption is here, A2.
That being said, what type road were you on? If on a federally funded highway, I would think MD law would not apply for this. If on a highway not federally funded, MD law would apply.
Best of luck to you. -
Yeah my bad. I just replied to another post about tandems, and had it stuck in my brain. It sucks getting old.

Fight the ticket. Make the officer prove his case.

Same with Connecticut. They always either lower the fine or throw it out entirely. Connecticut doesn't have traffic courts. Traffic tickets go into criminal Court so you are required to speak to a prosecutor who will offer you a plea bargain. They don't want you to go to court because you are clogging up the Criminal Court with a goofy ticket.
-
Wish I knew that 2 years ago but I don't think $850 for 1.9 ft over length is goofy. Not for me anyway.
I found a fix to this problem though.I just don't ####ing go there! -
In most situations in court it is the officers word and your word. Who do you think the Judge is going to believe?DSK333 Thanks this.

It's goofy to the State of Connecticut because all traffic tickets are tried in criminal Court and they place far more importance on murder and rape trials than they do on traffic tickets. Connecticut courts are clogged with violent crimes and they see traffic violations as a waste of time. Everybody has to plea bargain with a prosecutor in hopes that they won't go to court. I gave that advice to someone who bypassed a weigh station and got an $800 fine. The prosecutor lowered the fine to $100.driverdriver Thanks this.

He better have a scale registration for the 120k then. This alone could get the WHOLE ticket thrown out. Courts don't always believe cops.driverdriver Thanks this.
