I wonder who your "trainer" was and why he would take you to solo out if your not ready? I question his level of experience as a teacher at the time you where with him. A GOOD teacher helps develop a system with the entry level driver for which he can continue to build upon. The most important task of any "teacher" is to build confidence, period!
As far as your "Dan" comment; He may have been a bit bothered by the fact that people are failing the TEST. Because DAN wants everyone to be a success at MAY TRUCKING. At the same time DAN understands the purpose of the safety department. They are our risk management, if someone passes through and really fouls up it falls heavy on their shoulders. May trucking has some the best safety directors in the industry. And it is a proven fact that they will not hire a driver just to fill a seat. You should be thankful for that.

Not to come off like a total #$##$ but who showed you how to shift? Also over here at may trucking they are going to restrict rpm's to 1400 never to exceed that limit! The only proper way to shift is to do it progressively. But have no fear I will teach you that soon!
Good advice on the mirror checks tho! Kudos.

Most of them are drivers with the company as well if that tells you anything?

lets see, first of all, lets see. Two jobs in six months!!!!! my god kid, About two more jobs and anyone that you try to hire on with are going to think your a "job hopper" and that you won't stick. 13 speeds are the easiest trans in the world to drive. You said you drove a ten speed. the pattern is the same. its still a 5 speed box.

ley me ask ya this, if you have only ever drivin 10 speeds, never once sat behind the wheel of a 13 speed, did not know how to operate that tranny, how do you expect anyone to just drive it like it was second nature?
I drove a auto shift for over 7 years before I went to May trucking and had never driven anything with a 13 speed transmission. I passed my road test which I bet was more involved then most because they said it would be since I had not driven for a year OTR before I went there.
I also did some research on the 13 speed transmission before I went to May so I would be familiar with how it operated and the shifting pattern. I found it a easy transmission to use and prefer it over the 10 speed I now drive. -
I still stand by my oppion. You can't call your self an "experienced" or "seasend" driver if you can't jump into ANY truck with ANY tranny and operate it. Trannies are not that different and it's not that hard.
For those who are easily confussed. the origanail post is #120. I put in my answers on this one.
For those of you who have read both and can tell where I have put in my answers. Continue trucking on. Nothing to see here.Last edited: Dec 30, 2008

I have mostly only drove freightliners centry's and the new 387's.
I have drove a 379 but that was in the yard and once on the street and that was not pretty because it was night had issues with lane position.
I learned on a 10sp and then learned 13sp so I am confident that I could drive any truck with any tranny now. -
Pullin' a 50' trailer with 16 wheels, --- fully loaded.
Heavy.
Or one of those big cranes with four steer tires,
a small driver's compartment,
and a big front overhang.
Boing
Boing
Boing.
Bouncy
Bouncy
Bouncy.
Any truck.
Any tranny.
Right?
Git-'er-done.

Or not.
Depending on who's opinion is opining at the time.
And, perhaps, their manifold pressure and head temp.

When it comes to Big truck truck drivin' ---
your ego might be sayin' you're top dawg,
but when it comes to posting and properly using the "QUOTE" feature,
you're still a wannaBee (able to).
The way you broke down my post that you quoted
is abominable
and creates the illusion that I, Shakey AfterShock,
wrote all that is contained within said "quote".
Which I DID NOT.
That's a fact.
YOU added to my quote, making it appear as though what YOU added
were my words --- and that's unacceptable.
Not to mention confusing and unethical.
Please correct your post #137 by removing your replies from the body of my quote
or remove my quote from your post all-together to avoid any potential confusion
for/by those who will read it, now and/or in the future, -----
and mistake your words for mine. :smt017:smt102
Thank you in advance.
Side Bar:
For those interested, my ORIGINAL, unadulterated post is my PosT # 120.
