    hello, cleveland!

you know... changing from a 7am - 7pm schedule to starting at midnight or thereabouts.

i just had to switch to get a load heading homeward. i just tried to stay up an extra 12 hours (about 30hrs total, iirc) then sleep until it was time to hook up. was hoping the total exhaustion method would work but i still woke up after only about 5 hours of sleep. walked down the street to get a full belly (14" crawfish po-boy mmmmm...) and that helped me fall back asleep for another hour or two.

the first day of driving (starting at midnight) i ended up having to take a quick nap around 7am, man i was going crazy sitting behind the wheel, wanting to stretch my legs and stuff. after a 30min nap i was refreshed, but still pretty tired.

then, of course, i start my home time at noon the second day, having been up for 16 hours already... i stayed up til about 11pm to get my schedule back to normal, but for the last couple hours there my brain was useless.

i don't think my job will require it more than a couple times a year, but how do you guys handle switching shifts?

I have learned to live on any shift, I can now sleep at any time and drive at any time. Some times I'll start my week at midnight, and some times at mid day. But sometimes a 5 hour energy drink helps. I think that it is up to the individual, My Son In Law is tired 15 min after he is behind the wheel

A case of Miller Lite usually handles it.

I sleep on the weekends. through the week about 4 hrs a night is enough so I never really minded switching shifts, and since I get up around 2am for my day shift I pretty much work both day and night shifts all the time. You get used to it, I find on the weekend if I sleep in I am tired all day.

I'm Indian, and you can call me that. won't bother me a bit. I haven't figured out who the true Native Americans really are, I just know that we are not the first.

I had a buddy in the Navy, he was Hopi. Three beers, it was the end of his world... That was my point, and it was ugly after the fourth one... And none of us ever wanted to take him there. It was just not right. Skin color or whatever.

Typical day... lie on log book...then lie some more.

    9am start
    2pm take nap
    4pm start again

    Might extend nap to 5pm

Midnite or later go to bed.

Wake up about 8 or so..start over.
