Just someone that has come up with a scam to get a cut of permit cost, probably jealous of Arkansas charging $7 to send permit.
I can get a OK,At, Tx and many more in a few minutes but on a big load Ohio can take a day or 2, or play the route survey game with PA and get it kicked back because of some lame reason.

Change ain’t good, just another money grab under the guise of making things safer and better, can you say ELD.

Hoping it’s to get more uniformity across all states as far as axle setups & such. That’s more what I got out of it anyway.

LoneCowboy is right, it will never happen. Its not even a good idea in my opinion. Just reading through some of the different axle configuration proposals is ridiculous for example look at the 10 axles. Who is going to run a 2+2+2 trailer with loading 80k total gross 4 axle truck? There is no trailer in existence now that can do that and even do that. It needs to be a 2+3+2 with a tandem truck to even be realistic which is under the 11 axle proposal, but with a 4 axle truck there and that too is so hard to accomplish. I have only come across a couple of trailers that would load 80k gross on a 4 axle truck with 46k on the tandem of a jeep which was a 2+3+2 and it actually was a well balanced setup and the weights split well.
Do they actually think CA will start giving weight on a quad? Be real son, that will never happen in that liberal state. The day that happens is the same day they will start recognizing a hydraulic nitro stinger...never.
My thought is if this all theoretically happened there would be a whole boat load of specialized trailers immediately out dated including brand new trailers out there. It would put a lot of people in a bind that own those trailers.
If someone wanted to do some good in helping people out what needs to be proposed is trying to get the government to quite all this 12% Federal Excise Tax Crap (F.E.T.) that has been going on since the early 80's? What do they really do with all of that money from new truck and trailer sales anyways? Blow it all away thats what. I know it doesn't go to the national road system to improve and keep roads up, look at the way the roads are now.

Imagine, you open an app on your smart phone, click a couple buttons and BAM! one permit for the entire route, uploaded to all the coops so you don't have to stop.

Ha Ha, time to wake up sleepyhead. Stop dreaming, Uncle Sam needs his petty cash.

There’s almost nothing in this post that makes sense. Where are you coming up with the 80,000 gross thing? You’re hard to follow.

80k gross = putting 20,000# on the steer and 60,000# on the tridem of a 4 axle truck.

I understand if it doesn't make sense to you. I do loose people explaining things from time to time.

Ok so how come it isn’t possible? Enough neck on the jeep and trailer, and enough fifth wheel slide you could easily get 80,000 on the tractor.

    SAR and Oxbow Thank this.

I don't have any interest in the specifics since heavy haul isn't what I do, but he is right about one thing. There is a lot of specialized equipment out there that is set up to accommodate the laws of a specific state or set of states. If everything were made the same, much of that equipment would become useless.
