Yep, took me about 30 minutes to get my shopping done and another 15 minutes to get everything squared away. Then had to sit there and needlessly burn an hour and fifteen minutes to complete my split instead of driving another 10 miles up the road to the TA where I’d have had time to shower. The government made that choice for me.

I’m guessing not, because they have thousands of trucks. So, when one driver gets a ##### ache and can’t deliver the load on time, they just send another mindless drone to get it.

Hold up horse. That posted you quoted was in response to something i posted. I said ORIGINAL hos rules. Not the ones we had prior to the big overhaul in the early 2000s when the 14 hour clock was put in. I'm fully aware of how things were under what we commonly call the old rules, i was trucking then. Bought my first in 95.

Fair enough, but the point of my post remains.
I sold my last otr truck in 94 because it just wasn't fun anymore.

Yep a lot of what you said is accurate. I just wanted to make sure you wasnt directing that at me.

And i think you have rose colored glasses when looking back. I'm not dating elogs are wonderful, but i certainly don't want to go back to the days of heavy doctoring of the log book. Miami to Seattle and back in 6 days flat out sucked. Solos being expected to make team runs one a regular basis was not a good thing. Imo one of the best things to happen in the industry was the dot emphasizing hos. Thart fiorced customers and brokers to get away from the "run illegal or we will get someone that will".

Edit to add: and its still fun most days.

Or you could have stopped for your shower, and rode a bike, took a cab, uber........

Or you could have stopped for a shower on your last 10.

You make the choices. All 395 does is set the gameboard, the moves are yours.

Now that I'm home and have a minute, let me educate you. §395.2 defines "on-duty" time as follows:

I'm not any of those places waiting for anything, so #1 does not apply.

If I'm driving my POV, I'm nowhere near a CMV, so #2 does not apply.

Am I "at the driving controls of a commercial motor vehicle in operation" when I'm in my POV? Nope, so #3 does not apply.

Again, not "in or on a CMV" when I'm driving my POV, so #4 does not apply.

What I'm doing when I'm driving my POV has nothing to do with the loading or unloading process, so #5 does not apply.

CMV isn't disabled, so #6 does not apply.

Not taking a drug test, so #7 does not apply.

I'm not a motor carrier. While I may be a trucking company that owns and contracts out my services TO a motor carrier, the work I do for MY company (which includes chasing after parts and shop supplies) is not in the service of the motor carrier. The extent of my company's relationship with the motor carrier begins and ends with picking up and delivering loads dispatched to me. The finer details aren't any of their concern. In other words, #8 does not apply.

I'm not being compensated to chase parts, so #9 does not apply.

That's it. Being off duty as I drive my POV to chase parts and run any other errands I might need to take care of is NOT log falsification, because nothing I'm doing falls under the definition of "on duty time".

So you knowing you had a tight day decided to go deal with personal business in the middle of the day.
    Wait one.........

    Nope still not caring.

I foresee what will happen with any flexibility. We will be back to the slack jawed zombies of yore. Oh I know 33% are just naturally that way in the industry. But far two many falsify and extend their work day when the 14 hour clock is moved around. Most of these people can not maintain focus for 14 hours, by 17 they need euthanized and removed from the road.

There is no problem with the 14 hour clock in my opinion. Any hard working reasonably intelligent individual can make a #### good living inside 395. Those that can not need to leave the industry.
