If someone takes perdiem throughout the year it will hurt in if you get hurt on the job and need to collect workmens comp. Also if you go to buy a house or a car it will hurt you because you on paper you made less than what you actually made.

Because of this I would take it at the end of the year.

But actually this is not what the thread is about. And yes I know plenty people who live in their trucks. You could stay out for as long as you want. They sell all kinds of gadgets so you can cook in you cab.

Don't worrie about perdim. Use a falimys add. as home. I lived in a truck over 7 years never paid rent. Work well with your dispatcher and take your days off in nice places. Get a motal now and then. Compinys love drivers who don't cry about geting home. I loved it. Its real freedom.

I'm doing just fine. Actually the situation sounds somewhat similiar to the author of this thread, except i quit my job because i could no longer stand the people i worked with (yes it was that bad...think of a snotty nosed golf club....now multiply that by a factor of 10), i took a couple months off just for myself, and then went into trucking. You can still claim per diem, you just have to change addresses. It isnt that hard. Use a friend or family members home address.

I live in my truck. I just started, so i am buying items one week at a time. I am forced to eat at truck stops and fast food joints, but i am very selective and dont eat but maybe twice a day. i snack on cheese and crackers, and dont try spending alot of $$$. Once i get an inverter, i've got a 700w microwave, i need a coleman cooler, and then ill be set...oh....and an xbox 360 and a 22" LCD...lol.

I dont mind at all living in the truck. It is rent free....just think how much you will be saving on paying rent. I have 4-5 different places i can call 'home' so as long as i can hit one of those addresses once every 2-3 weeks, i'm happy as a clam. JUST KEEP ME ROLLIN' !!!

I'm happy to see that there are a good amount of positive responses to this idea.I was thinking of trading in Werner for TransAM.I've actually been having a difficult time convincing certain immediate family members that this is actually a good idea. But I think your posts helped me solve that problem.

From a newbie... I'm guessing that taking a per diem option would reduce the amount of on-the-road expenses that I could otherwise claim if all of my income were reported on W-2?
    Thanks!
