Hi, I just committed to coming over to Schneider Choice running out of the Phoenix area. I start orientation on April 30th. I picked a 2019 Freightliner Cascadia 126 automatic. $2500.00 down, 1080 a week including MMA. The only standard they had didn't impress me much, so I went with an automatic. So, I have a few question if anybody would be so kind as to give me some answers.
First on the truck..is anybody driving this model truck and how do they like it? I've never driven an automatic are there any tricks to maximizing mpg in an automatic?
How long is orientation? What's involved and what should I bring? Do they draw blood for your blood sugar during the physical or is it urine only?
How much do you pay for insurance weekly? I'd like to get an idea about what this weekly payment is going to be all in.
Now, about freight out of Phoenix, what are the numbers like? I'm going to try and head east out of Phoenix, because I just don't like driving in California. My plan is to try and make my way up to the Midwest and stay out for 4 to 5 weeks at a time then come home. I wish they'd let perspective drivers get a peak at the board, but they don't. Texas is another area I wouldn't mind driving, what are the rates regionally up there?
Now I realize rates fluctuate so I'm just trying to get a feel for what it's like generally. Jumping in blindly makes me nervous.
Thanks

Never buy new. Let some other idiot eat the depreciation and sort out the bugs.
ovosquad Thanks this. -
I'm getting out of a lease and going to this new one. I'm turning in a Kenworth, which I picked up new and it now has 304,000 miles on it. The kinks weren't that bad, but now the truck is starting to become a money sink with down time.

1. Never driven an auto, but I've wished I had one more than once. I understand they get around 9 mpg and they have "predictive cruse"....so it knows when you're about to go up a hill.
2. Orientation was 4 days I believe. It's been a few years since I did mine. As far as the physical goes, if they still do it like they used to, it's just an agility test and BP.
3. You insurance is already quoted in your weekly payment.
4. Freight out of Phoenix absolutely sucks; the last time I was there anyway. So work your plan. Stay gone for a while.
Good luck . I'll look at freight in a minute and get back to youSingingWolf and kanidana Thank this. -
As far as outbound, you're going to have to hop to either Colorado or Utah. Inbound is about the same, but you can sometimes find freight out of Texas.
Remember, most freight is regional.kanidana Thanks this. -
My friend drives for them and has a 2018 Cascadia automatic. He loves it. Nice and quiet, rides great and gets over 8mpg.
kanidana Thanks this. -
They are now getting $2,500.00 down payment and $1,080.00 per week job rental before the driver even starts ?
I have long held that there will come a time when you will purchase or rent your job. Government charges rent to keep you out of jail so job purchase or rental isnt to far off. A life on payments.ovosquad and Trucking in Tennessee Thank this. -
Except...if you lease purchase a trk from sfi...you can leave with the trk to another carrier...i and many other have done so and went to greener pastures..stevez57305 and SingingWolf Thank this.
