If you take your required 10 hour break thats 42 % idle time per 24 hour day. I wonder how the carriers come up with the maximum 30 % idle time .... oh wait I know, the drivers comfort doesn't matter. They can get their proper rest in 100 degree or 0 degree weather, they don't need A/C or heat. That would cut into the exes. bonuses if the drivers idle their trucks for comfort.
heartland lies!!!!

How do u calculate Idle time?
-
My hubby would gladly take that 300 to 400 miles for this weekend over sitting the entire weekend anytime.
Sitting equals zero dollars. 400 miles equals groceries for next week.
doubledragon5, Ms No Name 72 and jeepskate99 Thank this. -
Let's clarify something here; TRUCKLOAD has gone to crap and will continue to get worse because you people put up with it. The caliber of drivers is dropping and with that the quality of your lives.
LTL on the other hand is of course experiencing a slowdown but, it is a whole different world in terms of pay, benefits, treatment the entire deal. Unfortunately for you, LTL companies are doing little if any hiring so, it appears you'll have to make the best of your lot in life or, seek another career.1pissedoffdriver Thanks this. -
aladdin sane,a big amen to you....you said alot.... -
I drove for Heartland about nine years a go for two years. They started off pretty good and ran me hard. Just seemed to me after awhile they start getting slack on keeping a driver busy. We would see these new guys getting lots of miles while ours were going down.
I told my dispatcher that we needed to talk about the workload and he just kept putting me off. After two years I put in a two week notice that I was leaving, my dispatcher laughed and said I wouldn't leave.
Well the day I turned in my keys he wanted to talk. I told him it was too late as I had already promised another company that I would be at their orientation the next week.
I don't miss them because of the way I was treated and the insurance was pathetic. -
I think they all lie at somepoint
come to think of it when the wife was my dispatcher she kept me out quite a few times :O1pissedoffdriver Thanks this. -
Idle % is calculated based on Idle time vs Total engine time. Lets say you drove 8hrs and Idled 8 hours. Then your Idle % would be 50%. Now lets say you drove 10hrs but only idled 5hours, then your idle % is 33.Baack Thanks this. -
Oh yea! the ltl world is completely a different world. When I worked for an ltl company we had more folks die than quit. LTL and TL are in 2 different leagues. The sad thing is that TL carriers could be the same.
