First of all, let me say Im not talking about all drivers who have been driving for many years. Ive been checkin out this forum for only a few days and it seems like many drivers want to talk crap about the newbies. I guess they were never a newbie, huh. I know you cant take everything personal, but it seems to me that in an industry like trucking where so many drivers are looked at in a negative way, I would think drivers would go the extra mile to have each others back. I also know that you have idiots at every job, I know I have. Cant we all just get along, haha.
Its un freakin believable

As a newbie myself once I got on the road I discovered that there are a fair amount of veterans willing to help. Don't let the negative aspects get to you.
panhandlepat and Cybergal Thank this. -
This forum is filled with people who got crapped on by the industry . . . whether it be of their own decisions or not. This place also has hundreds of people who are quite happy with what they have accomplished.
There are many who think they know it all . . . but only some that come quite close.
Just ignore the fools that rub you the wrong wayrikdev50s, doubledragon5 and panhandlepat Thank this. -

Try working Oil Field. Being a newb in the trucking industry, is a cakewalk.
And yes, we were all newbs once too. But we come from a differant time, where you listened and learned. Or got your ### kicked. Instead of powdered. -
You also have to remember that the old timers are looking at the old times with rose colored glasses
-
I don't. I remember the s#### roads. Skinny roads. Sorry ### DOT that robbed you blind every chance they got. Companies that didn't care whether you slept this week, at all.
POS equipment...the list goes on and on.
But it was still more fun
As drivers were willing to help one another out, and get together during down times. For a Bar B Q or drinks..etc etc We worked hard, we played harder.
I spent 3 days shut down in a ####hole bikers bar with about 50 other drivers, and a BUNCH of bikers, because of weather. We all had fun
Thankfully there was a college right down the street. It added to the scenery.

well i for one am new to trucking but not new to helping my fellow man....or woman what ever the case may be in this politically correct world we live in. so to all people i meet and can help i will. dont really know how since i dunno s#$% but hey i have already helped two ex-coworkers start school. no one helped me.....cept of course myself and this site........but thats what i mean i learned the hard way (of how to get into the industry) others i meet wont have to. i met a guy at the bmv that had failed his written test once already. he didnt seem to bright but who am i to judge . i told him of a few sites where he could take practice tests and about this site for researching a job or whatnot. made his day so i was happy.

haha, I had to laugh at the oilfield comment. I was thinking the same thing. I worked in Northern Alberta for an oilfield service company. I was working along with this one rig crew and they had a new lease-hand who was in his mid 30s. I watched him have a breakdown, run back to his shack crying (seriously), and he called a taxi. The taxi had to make a 2 hour round trip to pick him up. It was all because of how harsh the rig crews can be to the new guy.
Its tough love. I think thats what some of you oldtimers are giving us. I understand you don't want us newbies to turn into some of the craptastic horrible drivers out there. Cheers to that.
