The last company I was leased to as an o/o they gave me old plate to run with for 6 months and then a brand new one in January. Current company says they cannot take my new plate and put it on another truck (thinking about getting my own)
Are plates transferable?

Rule number one, never let the company get you your base plate, it wastes your time dealing with chasing plates when you move to another company.
Time is money.redoctober83 and Bean Jr. Thank this. -
Yes, they transferable

Why would he say "No, we checked into that and we can't do it"? It's a small company and I can understand because of the cost, but he didn't say anything about that.

They can change from one truck to another in the same co. but not from one co to another. If its your tag you can change it as many times as you change jobs

Thank you. This company has 6 trucks running under their authority. Things sounded good when I switched, but things changed really quick and so I was looking into getting plates to make it easier to go somewhere else. I'm taking baby steps in this O/O life...lol

So I have been doing it all wrong,LS has been providing my tag and permits for free the last 11 years. It’s a reward that only a few get, guess I’ll call in the morning and tell them I’ll start buying my own.

Ls is one place where they don't change some owners as you know but mom and pop little carrier isn't going to asorb the costs, and this is what I'm taking about.
If you depend on the little guy, then you can get screwed. -
I just learned that UT plates are no longer transferable.
