That's the challenge. It's hard to find rubber rated for better than 75 here in idaho, and I've been lookin.
My truck was governed at 98mph to keep me out of trouble

When my ECM took a dump on my Cummins N-14 Redhead,I sent it to an outfit in Colorado to get it fixed. One of the parameters they saved was 99 mph, kind of a standard spec I guess. Had them bump the torque up a little, but left the hp at 500. Owned that truck 21 years,I never came close to trying that 99 mph, just liked passing/hill climbing power when I needed it. Don't know if it would get there or not,but it always had plenty left. Truck had a 15 over,3.73 gears and 11r24.5 tall tires.
My son had a 379 Pete with a mechanical 3406 in it,15 double over,3.36 gears and 11r24.5 tires. Way to fast for me.Last edited: Apr 11, 2018
KB3MMX Thanks this. -
I realize out west the speed limit is 75 (it's been awhile since I've been out there), but I thought 20 miles over the speed limit and they just completely take your license.
It's hard for me to imagine a cop giving you a break if you're doing 90 or 95 miles an hour in a tractor trailer. And if you're doing 126 they probably will haul you directly to jail.
I don't mean this post specifically for anyone, but I am careful with my license. No shipper or broker or load is worth losing your license or the fines or problems that go along with that. Now if this was the 1970s....
With all of that being said, when I did drive out west I am sure that I had guys pass me doing a hundred miles an hour + in Arizona.
Maybe it was you Pete, lol. -
600 HP 336 rars 22.5 rubber. ecm says limit is 94. Go fast meter gets flaky at 80. I keep it at 68-70(1,400 rpm) unless some jack wagon really p!$$es me off in a plastic truck( usually from the same company) then I just walk away from them, with a wave and a smile. I like it for the passing and the hills. Plus it's just plain FUN!!!

It seems that 2 trucks with identical drivelines can have different ecm limits .
what does the ecm limit indicate anyway? -
I believe its just another term for speed limiter. The result is the same anyway. I could turn it up, but don't see the need to.
Not yet anyway......
