OK, so here is a rant from me... I drove a bobtail and a 2 axle tanker for 5 years. I have all of my endorsements. I have a flawless 10 year driving record. I have had 3 jobs in my life. My last (Class B) driving job laid me off and so I went to school to get my Class A.

OK, no problem, I have my A now!
    Good right?
    WRONG!

I can't find anything! I need experience! I have FIVE YEARS of HAZMAT driving with my Class B! OK, so I know, I should have gotten my A, a very long time ago.

How does one obtain experience if nobody will hire you? I can't even get an interview! I live in Los Angeles, one of the biggest harbors in the US of A. I can't figure this out. I can't even "talk" to a recruiter. I mean, I read people complaining about recruiters all the time on here, I have not even MET one! Let alone TALK to one!

Everything is done online. That's no problem, I am used to that. Looking for a job these days is very difficult. All online with no personal connection whatsoever.

I had a great (class B) job lined up, told them I was going to school to get my A and they hired someone else because they knew I wouldn't stay with them once I got my A. Huh? I can't even get an e-mail or a phone call, let alone an interview!

    Seriously, I am frustrated.

If your willing to travel you can get a hold one of the big companies that hire inexperienced drivers but you will have to roll with a trainer for a while but you got to start somewhere right? Since you already went through school your at least a step further than most of us. P.S. You probably know this already but people will give you a mix of opinions on here so be sure to get all the information and make a decision based on factual information instead of some info from a ticked off driver who is unhappy for whatever reason because you probably won't have the same problem. Good Luck!!!

you are going thru what a lot of drivers are going thru or will soon ATA finally spoke the truth for a change and admitted that there is a GLUT of drivers in this country, New jobs in this industry are going to be very hard to get, the pay is going to get a lot worse and basically the whole industry is in for some very hard times for the foreseeable future.

It is really sad to see what this profession has become, the games that the companies have been playing and the greed behind it is now bearing very bitter fruit.

Give Navajo a call out of Denver and see if they'll pick you up. Might try Gordon's they have a terminal somewhere in CA as well. Just two that come time mind and yes they have a website but you might get to talk to someone live if you call.

Sorry to say switching from a B to A doesn't give you the experience that you thought. But you should still be able to find someone that will take you even if all there drivers are B.

Thanks for the tip! I actually got an e-mail from a recruiter from CRST. Looks like I am going to have to do some investigating on them!

My advise to any B drivers. Get your A while you still have a job, it would have helped me tons.

I would be a bit careful about C(rash)R(oll) and S(tunt) T(eam). I have "heard " alot of negative and not enough positive. I feel for ya C. As madbunny said check out Gordon. They will put you out with a trainer but they are from what I've heard a good company. Best of luck to ya in 2009 driver.

Check out the DAC section of the forums to get the scoop on all the trucking companies before you make a final decision. I would also check out Maverick, Tmc, Swift, Werner. I now the last two people have issues, but I work for Swift and had some good days, and some bad. MY problem with Swift was miles, but like I have said many times most of it was my fault for being new and not knowing what to do at times. But they never gave me a issue with home time, never charged for excess idle, and I even kept my truck home for two weeks once while attending a funeral back home in New England. The even flew me home from Cali when the wife was rushed to the hospital for medical problems.. There worth a shot IMO Good luck.
