When I had my d12 my dealer ( my dads uncle Owens the dealership) told me they were bulletproof. Even though family owned the dealership I could not get past the ride. A lot like it I did not. I prefer to feel the road and not have a breeze sway your cab. Most of all lack of power mine had.

Wow 1.9, I knew a guy with 1.6 and no overhaul but he did have quite a bit of blowby so he ran a tube to back of truck. (the D12 blowby tube sits pretty high and any fumes/dripping gets blown on the tranny)

I'm usually not pulling heavy so lack of power is not a problem, last year I averaged real mpg of 7.5 month so was very happy with that. Volvo's do like to sway in the wind though. On the D12 you have to jack the frame up to get the oil pan past the front axle but that may be what needs to be done.
I pulled another oil sample going to send it off tomorrow, along with the one I pulled when I changed the oil last time and have them tested/retested. I tried watching the water pump weep hole and no coolant came out by just revving the engine, but today it didn't leak at all, compressor cycling or not! I did see a few bubbles come up in the coolant tank when the compressor first kicked in. I think the head gasket is just starting to go on compressor but should get one of those things that you check for compression gasses in coolant I guess and make sure. -
That would be good to do. I had a false read for copper one time. Turns out that speedo had something wrong everyone was getting the same thing.

When my compressor went on my d12 I smelled antifreeze. The antifreeze was blowing out the air dryer. When it went in my isx the connecting rod blew through the side of the compressor.D12 Owner Thanks this.

If I did 7.5 I'd do a happy dance the Volvo was 5.5-6 I drove that very local almost no highway. I had a deal to run water for a grocery store each round 50 miles 4 rounds go home. Start at 7pm done at 7am I miss those days. Got undercut on the bid. The isx is a 600hp I gross 90k it never knows it's there but 5mpg is all she does some big hills on that run south jersey to Syracuse ny area.D12 Owner Thanks this.

That's why I am ok with less power I like it to go in my pocketbook instead out the stack.....

To the OP.
Don't know what year your truck is but I would say the EGR Cooler should be checked if it hasn't been. That is what it was when I had a D12.D12 Owner Thanks this. -
You had coolant in your oil? My egr cooler is blocked going over to the intake side and both coolants lines going to the egr were blocked but have come to find out its possible the rubber plugs used may worked loose.
