More true words have never been spoken- although I would say that your advice is sound policy no matter where you worked. I used to drive for covenant and I got all the miles I could handle, as long as I kept in touch with them.

Wow - that was pretty judgemental and offensive. Actually, I now pull tanker with one of the most reputable and strict companies out there. No doubt I am a responsible and excellent driver. By the level of offense coming from your post, I am assuming you are a representative of this company sent here to pollute any type of attempt drivers are making to stick together as a group in some way against these huge and powerful corporations. I normally don't make assumptions about people without adequate knowledge to back it up because that would get me in over my head. However, considering the considerable attack on my character without warrant, the exception I made in this case is a necessary and safe one.
The only other possible explanation is that they leave you alone because you have been there so long. As for me, like I said before, it was great the first couple of months, then went down hill fast. I spoke with a large number of other drivers who were actually in much worse of a situation than me. Hmmm, if your irrisponsible and offensive actions have any truth to them at all, I would deduct that crete/shaffer have begun to hire a mass amount of really bad drivers. I doubt that, since I know that I am not, but if that were the case, it's still a good reason not to work there.
I am actually grateful to crete/shaffer because if they didn't suck so bad then I wouldn't be in a job now that treats me with respect and is offering me a future to grow, instead of the same old dead end stuff. But I thought I would warn other drivers out there what they might be getting into with this company. I am confident that those other drivers will see, not only in this thread, but in a majority of them, that there are a mysteriously large number of posts from people defending these corps on a forum that's supposed to be about warning against these companies. Sounds kind of fishy to me that if anyone demands respect they are considered to be "whiney". hahha. -
I'm really beginning to wonder about you. There was not one word that is offensive in that post, and it wasn't ALL directed at you. He was speaking in general terms, for the most part. The ONLY comment that was directed towards you was when he states that as a "six year employee, he's not seen the problems you offered".
The man hardly attacked your character. He offered his own testimony and the reasons why he feels people may not have such a great experience.
Sheesh...
Now I question your comprehension. If anything, the man has demonstrated that he is responsible, does his job well, and is anything but a "bad driver".
Your taking offense to his response is not based on reality.
To each his own. I know of cases where people have won the lottery, are miserable, and consider it the worst thing that ever happened to them.
Ah...I see the problem. You "demanded" respect. Here's a newsflash for you;
Respect is earned, and it takes time to earn it too.
Look...you offered a negative post on the company. The consensus in the follow up posts, including mine, seem to contradict yours. It happens. The man contradicted my comment that it sounded like it was Shaffer, rather than Crete. You don't see me being defensive about it. You still haven't defined which company you actually worked for. They are two different companies, under one parent Corporation.
I'm led to believe at this point that you did indeed work for Shaffer. I have no personal knowledge of the inner workings of that company, so my mistake.
Your comments are still there for people to read. They can choose to take them any way they desire to do so. Your still on record. But make no mistake about something. There is always two sides to every story, and what matters in the long run, is the truth. Just because your story is controverted by anyone or a bunch of anyone's, your choice to get defensive and offended and to offer that things are "fishy" because there is a certain amount of disagreement, only hurts YOUR case.
Dwayne Acklie is a fine man, and he has run his companies with integrity and has exemplified ethics in all that he does. He treats drivers with respect, and he demands that the people charged with the oversight of drivers, do the same. I know this for a fact.
Now that aside, I happen to believe that your experience may have been everything you say it was, but you might have been able to work it out. I don't happen to think that you tried. Most drivers will quit, rather than to sort out issues. It's the path of least resistence for many.
But, and this is strictly my opinion, you might want to dump that two ton chip off of your shoulder, and let it fall to the ground. It's really making you irritable, and it comes shining through every one of your posts.
P.S.- Yesterday you were a law student. Today you pull a tanker. What's the skinny on that? -
When I was at Crete and Shaffer i didn't have many problems, i got miles, but some terminal managers will play games.
they have definately changed since Tonn Ostergard took over, and i have heard stories that he doesnt really like drivers.
but i liked being there -
Isn't this "Ostergard" some bigwig in the ATA?
-
No...Duane Acklie, who actually owns the companies, that apparently have all been folded recently into one Company and are operating under the Crete name, for some reason, is Chairman of the ATA.
Tonn Ostergard (I've had this man's name wrong for years. I thought it was "Tom") now sits as Chairman and CEO of Crete.
I was doing a little nosing around, and it looks like Mr. Acklie has had some political aspirations, and has become wrapped up in this fund raising scandal that has plagued the Republican Party. :smt103
He tried to buy a an ambassadorship appointment, by donating to Bush's and Cheney's campaigns, and they left him twisting in the wind. He's wanting to be involved in trade issues.
I thought it was bad enough that he hooked up with the ATA, because that organization is bad enough, and no friend of the American truck driver.
I was a bit disappointed to read that.
The Associated Press reported in 2005 on letters that Acklie wrote to then-Nebraska Governor Mike Johanns in 2001. The letters offer a rare, iinside view of how donors leverage campaign money to land appointments. "My only interest, if I am going to serve, would be in serving as an ambassador or in a position involving trade," Acklie wrote Johanns. Referring to an official who headed Bush's Pioneer fundraising in 2000 and Republican National Committee fundraising in 2001, Acklie added that, "Jack Oliver told me several weeks ago that he was informed that I would not receive one of the eight major ambassadorships but would be receiving an ambassadorship." After this appointment failed to materialize, Acklie helped organize a $400,000 Omaha fundraiser that Vice President Cheney headlined in 2003. A week later, President Bush nominated Acklie to chair the now-defunct board of the Student Loan Marketing Association.

Been at Crete going on 4 years. So far its been pretty good. Will not work anywhere else.I like it.If it starts going bad Im out but so far ill stay
-
When I worked for Crete, I had no major problems. They ticked me off on the map miles vs hub miles discrepency, and I had a hell of a time getting home while driving for the 48-state fleet, but overall Crete is a great company....at least when compared with a company like Swift, a company I also worked for.
-
I guess there's no one perfect company for everone. I've been at Crete for a little over a year now, I get the miles, my pay always comes out right, and I run legal. I do know of drivers who run ahead on their logs and are getting busted for it. I drove for a food grade tanker co in Fl for a while in the early 90's, what you're describing sound's like them.

I have been working with crete for about three mths now se div. out of a ga terminal. the pay scale is good but u have to have the miles to back it up. and that is not happening. they are a cruel people in mngment. they do not respect their drivers. and it is true what one said here in the forum. that they will tell u that u did not communicate with them about time off. like when u send in message taking 34 restart at home see u later. they say ok. so u go home do ur 34 come in. then they get all blowed up saying u didnt tell them that ur taking 34 restart. and term mnger. will not discuss any issues u have. they dont have time they say. but when ur in the office to talk about something they ignore u by talking on the phone to thir buddies about playing golf. NO RESPECT FOR THE DRIVERS... The miles huh the last 4 weeks i avg. 600miles per week.mind u now this is forced dispatch dont except the load ur termmmmminated. overall i would rate crete on a scale of 1 to 10 1 being worst to 10 being good. about a 4 to work for. they do not respect u as a driver only as a number so u take this info for what its worth it is the truth.
