I want to get back into trucking. When I first left I had the wrong mindset and didn't want to work very hard. Now that I'm familiar with the lifestyle and other various rules and ways to protect myself, legally and from the bad DBL's, I had a few questions for more informed pumpkins. I drove for Schneider for 1 year and quit, voluntary resignation, as they put it.
So one of the things I wanted to know is what is to expect in terms of cpm for regional or full OTR staying out 1-2 months at a time. Also I want to avoid doing the refresher course as I heard bad things and rather not be tied to them for 3 months.
What kind of tractor am I going to get as a returning driver? Its been 6 years since I left. I remember in 2011 they gave me a dirt covered #### bucket that had no power steering until I switched to 4 on 4 off.
Also have the DBL's and night support become any better in recent times?
No recent experience but I have a year with Schneider

Stay away from megas and DAC.
Use smaller outfits that DON'T use dac. And won't require a refresher course. And will know you by name instead of number. -
1. You'll likely have to do a refresher wherever you go. 1 year is too long out of a truck.
2. If you want to go back to Schneider, call them and they can answer all of your questions.SingingWolf Thanks this. -
Just stay away from those you should goto anyway. Smaller companies, or use a headhunter

I called and they said with my experience of a year that my cpm would be 40-49cpm. i find it hard to believe but it was a Schneider recruiter. And theres a no eastern area regional spot, im in the chicago area. sounds pretty good but im not gonna hold my breath.

I took more than a year off to go back to school several years ago and then went back into trucking and never had to take a refresher... I guess it depends on the Carrier
-
I guess so, but most carriers ask if you've had OTR experience in the last 90 days. The good news is, I had a guy in my CC class there for a 'refresher' and they basically made sure he knew how to shift and sent him on his way......$500 later.

from what I understand that range is accurate.

sounds pretty dank. when i worked before i was making 27cpm so big difference. looking forward to it.

It really all depends on how desperate the carrier is for drivers. I've seen ads asking for 6mos experience in the last 5 years.
