Macho, thx for the info. The list is updated. I'm most likely going with Swift, Werner, or Roehl. I am in the process of college and getting CDL permit. So my time is mostly used up; however after taking several practice test(s) for the permit, my scores remain about a 80-90%, though I'm starting to get more 100%'s.

Kinghunter don't worry about the permitt test you should do fine if your getting those scores on the practice test. I took about 3 practice test after reading the booklet and took the test and past no problem now comes the hard part. But I will do ok.

Hay Johnnlexy did you have to get your permit before you went to school or did they teache to get your permit. I was thinking of going with them but I think the price is a little high.

I was in the same boat brother! went to tdi in sanford fl. with big expectations of getting a job out of fl. but I did not do enough research! fl. is a consumer of freight not much of a producer. I called and called. and called even more every company I could come up with! nothing either they wernt hireing out of fl. or they wernt hireing till after the first of the year.just dont get frustrated look for a company that hauls foilage, that is your best bet but plan on bieing on the road for 3-4 weeks at least! maybe look into beer or concrete, that will give you home time! hope i helped!

problem is you guys arent looking at it the right way, no offense. Trucking (to make any money) is gonna be OTR especially if you have little or no experiance. OTR means being away for a minimum of 3 weeks but more like 4,5 or 6 weeks. Then you take a week off. If your lucky enough to get a regional job you may get home a little more but you may not make as much money. There is a reason why they pay regoinal drivers more. They get shorter runs.
Also, Florida is considered a "black hole" in the industry and no one wants to send you down here(I live in Palm Bay) 'cause they cant get you out.
As for getting a local job where your home every night, good luck! Those are few and far between and mostly go to drivers that have yrs. of xp.
AS far as working for Swift or Werner. OH Lord! Say it aint so!!! Swift drivers are the butt off every bad joke and ridicule on the Highway. And Werner drivers arent much better as far as that goes. Plus Werner has paperless logs which sounds great right? Dont have to figure out hours and whats left and all that? Wrong! If your out of hours in a Werner truck you better stop where you are or get ready for a reprimand or out and out fired. If there is a truck stop 1/2 an hour away, too bad. They know when your moving due to thier GPS locator on the truck.
I am not condoning log manipulation but, that being said, everyone does it to a degree when you need to make things work to your advantage.
You cannot do anything about it in a Werner truck.
Check out Conway. Go to the search bar in this website and search "posts by scarecrow56" and see what I said about them.

OK Merch, here's the scoop!
As of last week, Windy Hill Trucking in Eustis is still hiring drivers from Florida.
You start out at $350 a week for at least three weeks with a trainer!
When you go solo, you start at .27cpm, with a raise every three months,
(assuming you don't mess anything up, I guess).
You get home every three weeks!
You haul floral out of Florida, run around the eastern half of the US for three weeks, and bring a load of paper products back to Fl.
I guess I sound like a recruiter huh? I'm not.
They seem to be a pretty good company, from what I saw and have heard about them.
I almost went to work for them, I was this <> close, until I found out that I was considered a student, at .27cpm, even with 20 years experience.
Good luck to you. From what I have found out, your best chance of getting home in Fl, is to work for a floral company.
Hope this helps.

Other things you guys have missed is what is cost me to stay out (eating, showers reimbursed?,tolls not covered by prepass,) learn to like ramen noodles and have a sharp can opener. Its a write off the first year usually. I hope you have another income,no kids (you wont see 'em much) and many bills. Don't get me wrong it's a beautiful thing out there but be ready for things you wouldn't expect (what do you mean you wont let me use your bathroom it's for employee's only). Just be ready, suck your pride in every once in a while no matter who you drive for.
