I started to comment on the guy in the picture also, but thought better of it.
We don't really know for sure if he was the Darwin Driver.
Possible him and his friend also pictured were just there for the cleanup?
Too much jumping to conclusions in todays instant media.
(Redneck; I resemble that remark.)
I have a picture in my phone, (that somehow I can't seem to send to my laptop - tried,) that shows
my truck on small blacktop road near Gouldsboro, Pa. - coming to a low railroad overpass.
Sign says ["Clearance 11' 3"] and the mini excavator I was moving was one inch more.
I got to the low side and inched thru 3 of the 4 beams and got to the last one on other side.
This had been hit so many times it looked like the Railroad had re-plated the bottom of the beam
with a 1"X12" plate - 20' long, and bolted it to the remains of the old beam bottom flange.
Apparently the old, "just go faster and you'll make it" was used here often. Plate gave it the extra inch.
I had to back out and go miles around. -
Oh...that explains why Nashville Predators got womped by the Winnipeg Jets last night
not4hire and bryan21384 Thank this. -
Pfft, they are saying it will take months to repair. They need to come to Maine.
Shore up the bridge, order some new steel. Get some real welders in there. Probably take two weeks to actually repair it.
Then again it is probably union so add in 3 weeks worth of inspectors to look at it, Also 3 weeks of engineers to say why it cant be done. sigh Heck of a world we live in now.DSK333 Thanks this. -
This turns out to be a "construction water truck". I wonder if it has a part in the center of the bed that is raised (and higher) then the outer edge where they may have measured to? And maybe they did not notice or were not made aware of this.
But still, loads over 13-6 high are prohibited there and it's hard to say for sure but it appears higher than that even out on the extremities, visible and measurable from the ground.
Kind of like some 5th wheel travel trailers that are 12-6, but have a 1 foot high air conditioner mounted up on top near the center. These get torn up regularly because the out of sight a/c unit height is not accounted for.
But I admit only a moron would design such a flaw into a large machine if it wasn't absolutely necessary.Last edited: Apr 28, 2018

Google Cat 773e water truck. There are a few versions but the tanks are pretty flat and apear to be close to the same height as the dump truck version which according to this Caterpillar 773E Rock Truck the truck stands 14'6" before it gets put on a trailer and you can see in the pic on the first page of this thread the beam looks of have hit close to a foot down the tank face. Which wasnt we just missed by an inch or so.

Maybe the driver has had a long career and can easily pay all damages with his loves or pilot points

I wonder what that driver called drivers working for mega companies?
Did he call them:
A steering wheel holders
B. Window lickers
C. seat warmers

Lets look at the positive side of things. He/She/gender neutral, must of been going at normal traffic speed, from the damage on the bridge and water truck. Lets give him/her/gender neutral, kudos for doing a great job strapping/chaining the load down. I'm surprised the load didn't rip off the trailer.
On another note the reports about their CSA score is miss leading. If you have one truck and put out of service, maybe for a light out, you now have a 100% OOS, 3 to 4 times the national average. But if your driver kills someone in a accident that was their fault, and have more than 20/30 trucks your company will show a good CSA score, even if they had a truck put out of service with a light out.
