    Hello,

What is the rate that a broker usually charges per load? I have a broker that is charging me 17% per load, this covers the loads and trailer rental. Does this seem fair? or is he charging me too much? He is also insuring me through his insurance but it is $1,800( I will pay $1800 three monthly payments but I will be covered for 5 months so it would equal out to be $1080 a month). This seems excissive to me, especially when I have 5 yeards of driving experience.

Are you under your own authority? If not, you shouldn’t be paying 1000 a month for insurance. As for the percentage the broker gets, don’t worry what they get. Sorry about what you need to make to break even and what you need to make to make the living you deserve. Are you hauling vans? I wouldn’t turn the key for less than 1200 per day if I’ve got my own trailer under my own authority hauling vans. Power only... maybe a bit less.

I am very confused on the setup you have. Are you leased to a carrier with broker authority? Who's DOT number do you have on your truck?

I apparently have a lot to learn. I'm leasing to someone ( I believe this is the dispatcher), that is the DOT number that I have on my truck and his company name is also my truck.

What are your weekly fixed costs... that is, everything that stays the same week to week, whereas things like fuel are variable...

You are paying way too much for insurance. Even if you have a brand new truck lease on you shouldn't be paying that much

you should be asking this in the "Owner/operator" section, not the new guy section.
