Trying to weigh my options, right now I’m between J.B. Hunt local intermodal, and McLane a one day route . Any opinions on either company is appreciated

I'd probably take the JB intermodal. Food service is a back killer...

I drove intermodal for Hunt - good company i liked them. Would still be there but they gave me a terrible FM so i left.
Never drove for maclane but i did do food service and i liked it. Liked it better than intermodal for Hunt because i got to meet people and get excersize. Very little work as most freight was palatized and was unloaded for me but it was all driver assist so sometimes i would grab the pallet jack and do it , sometimes they would do it for me. Once in awhile we would unload and stack boxes but rare. 2 to 5 stops a day. Sometimes a full 53 foot loaded reefer sometimes only half a loaded trailer. It was dedicted so 50% loaded 50% empty paid all miles plus stop pay.

Definitely, lumping the entire trailer versus no touch freight is an apples to oranges comparison.

If your in it for the money. Don’t mind physical work. Mclane is where it’s at.

If you want to bump docks and 45k-65k fits your needs then JB and you prefer no physical work.

There’s 3 different divisions. Teams grocery, and two Foodservice divisions. The old mbm runs the liftgates. While the other Foodservice side runs a ramp. I can say the bottom pay is around 55k-65k at lowest level. Which means your a fresh graduate and getting your CDL thru us. If you have a CDL they can start u at the 2nd pay rate. Which is roughly 65k plus a year. But if you do well and are reliable they’ll bump you up to the 3rd grade. Which you can get to in your first year. Then you’ll make 70k+ and a year later or sooneryou’ll get top rate. From 3rd level to top out is a big difference in pay here. At top rate I’ve seen my weekly check from 1200-2700 in a week. I’ve been here almost a year but I had prior Foodservice exp. But the lack of people wanting to do this job they might bump your pay up to top out to keep you after a year. Lots of people leave this job and with less and less people hiring in. Moving up here isn’t hard to do.

There are guys making 100k+ so the money is here. Just depends on how much you want to work. If you come in on your days off they’ll pay you an extra $100 if your a bid route driver. We work on a 60 hour work week not 70.

Preciate the info. Yep I have experience already but this will be my first food service gig. The route they have me on is a driver/driver, driver/helper job.
