"WASHINGTON - President-elect Barack Obama is urging Congress to postpone the Feb. 17 switch from analog to digital tv broadcasting, arguing that too many Americans who rely on analog TV sets to pick up over-the-air channels won't be ready. "

They have been advertising it everywhere. I don't understand why the government thinks we are all a bunch of imbeciles.
-
Alot of us aren't just the majority of Americans are or just too lazy. They have only been telling everyone for about 3yrs now maybe longer and look how many ppl aren't ready.
They have been giving the coupon for ppl to go out an buy convertors but no one did until now. And the ones that aren't are saying they NEVER were told or we aren't ready.

But have no fear the ONE is here, and he will keep the idiot's from having their IDIOT boxes turned off. I mean OMG we just might miss what the ONE has to say or the media cartel not being able to tell ppl how to think for awhile. We just can't have to happen. -
Good lord, even my MIL is ready for it! She's in her mid-60's, not tech savvy, and still managed to be ready for it with a bit of assistance from hubby and I.
-
Look at this way, some people out there still use TV's built in the 60's & 70's via antennae, no cable or satellite to convert them automatically. If they do delay it, then what is the urgency or mandate to convert to digital even necessary? If it works, don't fix it I say on this matter.
Another thing to ponder, coupons to buy a converter? Then I suppose the converters are not worth the full price if the same government is giving out a coupon. Plus who really pockets this money for a converter? -
Amen brother

Personal opinion here but the whole thing is just a shell game. There has got to be some serious payolla going on with this crap. -
Even if the gov postponed the switch over for another year there still would be a lot of people that would not be ready. Some people won't change until the box they have doesn't work any more, then will still complain just like they are now.
That is just the nature of the beast. (no, I am not calling them animals
)
rocknroll nik Thanks this. -
That about sums it up there. Some people just have to be beaten aside the head to get a message through.rocknroll nik Thanks this.

They, the government auctioned off that bandwidth to the cell phone companies. $20 billion dollars. After the deadline, those radio frequencies no longer belong to the government. It's not theirs to hold on to. From what I understand the deal is the cell phone carriers want to use it for the next generation of wireless internet, and there is a clause in the deal that mandates that part of that access be free of charge. So I say let's get on with it.

It doesn't really work though, considering today's technology, high-definition that is. With digital you can get high-def and much better quality on all channels. When people are forced to, they'll get onboard. Somehow, people come up with the money to renew their car tags each year.
