I would volunteer for that hell ride man. They would see what it's like in a big truck that can only go 63 miles an hour. It would be priceless to record their reactions to it all too!!!!!![]()

I hate anthropomorphism.

I've seen cow teeth by the thousands, they don't smile like a human, but that tongue is like a flexible 2x4 covered with wet sandpaper, a happy cow cow makes your skin burn in a hurry if you get too close.Last edited: Jan 9, 2009

what? WHAT? WTF??
I have always had a deep hatred for Jimdandy Doyle, but this takes it to a new level.
If they really truely GAF about the environment, they'd require reefers to be turned off between 10 and 90 too, right?
I know cheese, meat, and ice cream will suffer, just like truck drivers, but hey it's for the "environment"........I mean komunism rule.
Thanks for the intel, cybergal. -
My wife and I did find it humorous that our Freightliner, which is getting poor mileage by the companies standards, is getting almost double what someone told us their H2 was getting.
Of course, we looked up the numbers and he just didn't have a clue about his car. Got too much of daddy's credit card when gas is pushing $3.50/gal and you don't know your fuel mileage AT ALL. -
No kidding! I don't know the exact fuel mileage of my car, but it is at least in the high 20's if not low 30's per gallon. It's a 5 speed though, and I actually think you can get better mileage with a standard tranny than with an automatic. I could be wrong, but I've found that to be the case for my cars.
-
You can. It is a little complicated, but it has to do with the torque converter in automatics and losing some power ie efficiency in there. The "Overdrive" setting actually locks the torque converter to try to help with that problem, but you still have it accelerating up to those speeds, so you still lose some.
-
I think from now on, I'll stick with the manual tranny. Not always easy to find when you are buying very used, but I think I'll be making a point of looking for them all the time.

my car get about 32 mpgs in the summer and about 24 in the winter because i have to let it heat up for about 15 minutes b4 i go ne where...burrrrr it was -14 this morning. I love living in the U P
-
glad it wasnt -14F here... (altho.. ice on the roads clears out the darwinistic 4wheelers from the pavement yummmmmmmmmmmmmmm)
BUT this is insanity!! does anyone remember seeing a JB hunt truck about 2mi ahead and havin to check their side mirrors so they could get over because they were doin 55 in a 75 in western TX?? speed limiting is a JOKE!!! its dangerous!!!!
and on 4wheelers (having just been fired from a GM dealership) i can tell ya dude.. their emissions are 100x worse than trucks!!!as long as the engine is running right, you can run a diesel indoors almost indefinitely, w/ a car, you got a few mins b4 the CO gets too high, even w/ EGR's and all the smog appliances.. they need to get off of the trucks and all over the cars for emissions
ive got a 2006 suzuki forenza (i know, kinda small for a trucker) but after i reprogrammed the shift points on the trans, it stays in the hi 30's for MPG, on the long trips to my inlaws house in PA (538mi one way on 77/81) i can squeek it out to 43mpg if i set a brick on the floor to hold the speed steady at 71mph (the brick was cheaper than the extra $1600 it costs to install/program the cruise control)
