Recruiters do lie but can be caught really quick. Ask them if they drove before, they'l say yes. Ask them what a drag link or the color of the service line is. And see if they know. If they don't tell you the negatives then they are being unrealistic. You will always have negatives and it's based on individual needs if it is a negative. It's a shame you talked to one person only. I don't like that. A recruiter should present the job and not sell it. Inform of the ups and downs. Find something that fits you and have the decency to say sorry I have nothing thats' ideal for your future. Hometime and money is the main concern. And the stigma that sub .40cpm means you won't make money and 60cpm will. Cents per mile tell you everything.

Davis express out of Starke fl runs strictly SE and they take drivers right out of school so 6 mos you shouldn't have a problem.Need4Speed Thanks this.

Recruiters do not lie. They just neglect to tell the whole story to potential new drivers. They tell you all the good stuff about pay, hometime, and so forth, but leave out the truly horrific stuff to et you in the door

90% of their driving is night driving ... turns the world upside down and messes up the natural internal clock of lots of folks ..sleep all day - drive all night into the morning ... not good
superflow Thanks this. -
If I live in the Ft Wayne IN area who would you recommend to start with? Thanks a bunch for your help with us new drivers.

What type of trailer are you considering to pull?

I don't get the part where they rented her a car but she took the bus home. One way rentals are very expensive. Why not drive it back?

Are you really sure you want to be a truck driver? Even regional will take you away for some over night. Since you volunteered you are a single mother, does that mean you have child/children that need home supervision? If so, this is a tough gig to match up to that. It is a great job but demands many long hour days to be successful. Good luck and sorry you hit the suck.

I work for Centerline drivers, you can check it out online, Ive been happy working for them, you end up working at different companies, like UPS, Lily Transport, Cargile Meats, etc when you hit a work assignment you like you just tell your driver manager, For a couple of months Ive been doing Whole Foods and get along well there, I just told the leave on this account until I let you know otherwise, I get 22.50 per hour overtime 33.75 per hour. I have a choice of local or short runs, like Los Angeles Tucson and back, On the short run 0 - 8 hours at 22.50 hours from 9 thru 14 are at 33.75, per diem for the 10 off around 35 bucks, then 22.50 for the drive back home, when weather is extreme like the heat they put you into a Hotel for the 10 off. Any well I'm sure there are better deals but I'm happy with this and do 3 rounds per week. And I dont touch freight on short line, on local you may have to unload with a pallet jack but its no big deal.
Hope this helps -
Because when they rent you the car your a tentative driver, the ride back home is a courtesy, even though it may not seem like it at the time. There are company that just bid you a good day and getting home is your problem.
