Actually it is true.
Back in the early 90's I had a friend that was leased onto the company I was a company driver for.
My truck was governed at 65 , his was wide open and he ran.
He's fuel mileage was always a little better than mine.
And yes we did many tank to tank comparisons.
Any big companies besides Shwift raising their governed speed?

I don't think the owner would like that, lol. Plus, I get 64 mph in top gear at 1450 rpm. She's got the grunt to keep going, just no more legs.stwik Thanks this.

2 identical trucks. 2007 columbia's 455 detroit 10 speed 3.7 rears go from toronto to NC at the same time with identical loads. 1 truck has trouble getting 6 mpg the other got close to 9mpg. Theory is good but it doesn't always work out in actual practise.

At $2.00 a mile averaging 70 that's $140 an hr so by saving 55 minutes that's like making an extra 120 or so. I know that's not reality but definitely should be factored in. If the megas are so worried about fuel mileage they should pay drivers by the hour then you will both make money driving 55mph and be safer drivers saving even more.

I think I saw that episode. However I also read a piece in a magazine about fuel mileage in regard to aerodynamics. It is not so much in the gearing as it is pushing air. Like I said there is a (sweet spot) where all of these things meet. A driver has to find their's. Oh and it is not a one size fits all solution either.
