That post actually made me chuckle to myself, which is rare as I have a pretty "dry" sense of humor and it takes quite a bit to make me actually laugh. So good on you for that. But you're right, when I see posts like this, and all of the FACTUAL replies, I often wonder the same thing myself "now why am I doing this again?" It is what it is I guess.

Back to the OP's question, I'm only 30 but I've always been big into barbell training. I was a "meathead" at one time, and now I just focus on being harder to kill, as well as being strong enough to kill another human with my bare hands, in the event I need to protect myself or my family, as well as just enjoying looking good naked. That's about the only motivations I have when it comes to working out.

But this is what I do. Obviously you're not going to carry around a power rack, barbells, plates etc in the truck. So I got creative. I pull a flatbed, so when I park I'll do pull ups and chin ups on the side of the trailer, throw chains over a metal rod and do military presses, floor presses (if the ground isn't filthy) squats, curls, skull crushers, rows, etc. I even utilize my heavy tarps for lifting, you know those things that people dread having to put on a load. I untarp my load, roll my tarp up, then implement it into my workout. I also do HIIT cardio wherever I park. Sprint for 15-30 seconds like a mad man, then walk for a minute. Repeat until you've done 15-20 minutes, I do this 3 times a week. It's certainly not ideal, and not as easy as walking out to my garage and utilizing my power rack, but it's doable.

When it comes to nutrition, from what you describe you obviously know what to eat. As others have said, get a electric cooler if your truck doesn't have a fridge and throw food in there that you can prepare instead of eating out of the truck stops and restaurants. I plan to be back local in the next couple of weeks, so lifting will be A LOT easier. Long story short, it can be done, but it can be a real PITA depending on how hard your company runs you. There will be times when you park at the end of the day, and the only thing you want to do, is walk your happy ### to the bunk and knockout.

Hey Dave. Can I call you Dave?
Thanks for your input. Love the way you use tools at hand. So good food for fodder.

To all the rest. Great input also. Some very valid point.

I had no idea the ELDs could hamper extracurricular activities as much as they do during the 14 hours. Seems to give new meaning to "Big Brother."

Do some laps around the trucks stop and in the summer you can enjoy the smell of all the dried piss guys dump out on the pavement. Ha ha I'm just say is not as easy. You get 10 hours off to eat and sleep and shower. Sometimes you have to wait 45 minutes to 1 hour for a shower. It's not like at home, you can't just get a shower anytime you want. You have buy 50 or 60 gallons of diesel to get a shower credit or pay cash yourself.

Then you need the time top stop and shower and eat and get load delivered on time and with ELDs you need to do it all legally. Then you have the problem of getting to a gym and parking. You can't drive 550 miles a day and go to the gym and then still drive to truck stop and park you can only drive 11 hours in a 14 hour work day window.

If you manage to let us know. Because after working, driving 11 or 10 hours and it takes 14 hour day to do that. I'm usually a little tired and ready for some rest. We also forget to mention the parking problem. The truck stop start filling up at 6pm . So you need a parking spot also to worry about.

One more thing to figure out, dropping a loaded trailer at truck stop and with say $35,000 - $200,000 of freight inside that you are responsible for is not a good idea. Just to go to the gym

I'm just saying it's not so easy and you can't park at the gym for your 10 hour rest break.

    Health?

Spend less time harpooning on druggies (and doing drugs while you're doing it), get out of the cab, stop being fat and hit some pushups....

Stop at a local gym and go play full court basketball, best exercise available....or tennis/soccer

Now here i was thinking that i was the only one on this forum that was health conscience not quite as fit as you now, as i used to run about 10 km every morning till i got back into driving. I guess only time will tell as to how positive you remain in this industry give it another 12 months and we'll speak again and you can tell me if you still have a positive frame of mind.

@1badtruckdriver You may find some information in the linked sub-foum helpful, or better yet, once you get into your rhythm, you may be helpful in that sub-forum.

I once saw a guy with a weight bench set up next to his truck at the truck stop. ONCE.

That depends entirely on the company you work for. Now more and more companies are starting to realize that drivers health is important. Bison has actually put a full exercise room with equipment in their terminals. I go for a half hour walk most days. I eat properly and adjust my schedule accordingly.

Big Brother is such a sexist term. It implies the Guy is behind all the bad things that happen.

But, let's be fair to the 'fairer' sex.
Women are the real string pullers.
    Behind every great man... etc.

Give females the credit they deserve, and acknowledge that they are actually the Big Sister steering what Big Brother does and says.
