I was thinking I should be looking for cities/towns that you go to alot, but realized I need to think more along the lines of towns you don't go to very often, where freight is few & far between. (leading to sitting) If it was an area you drive to often then you are probably won't have as much down time.

Any requests?

 

If you think you'll ever have to be held over in this area during Thanksgiving/Christmas with your young child/children, (probably between the ages of four through ten) or the young at heart, pick up a book called "The Red Ranger Came Calling" get comfy (shut off the radio/s) and tell them you have something special to share, related to the story, after you've read it to them.

The story is about a little boy that dreamed of owning a particular bicycle, that was out of his reach due to the economy at the time, set in the depression era. He has little faith of, that he would admit anyway, to there ever being a Santa Claus.

He is staying with his Aunt Vy, in December, on Vashon and meets up with Saunder Clos, and his curiousity brings him out his bedroom window and up-close to the unfriendly "hermit" on the hill. He wakes up Christmas morning to find a gift,,,




on the island, in that tree, is the story that will make the children wonder if what they had listened to was a true story, not just a colorfully worded and illustrated book. If you want it to be a surprise, do not show them the photograph of the tree on/in the back of the book.

After reading the story, I imagined going on a long trek, too long anyway, for little ones, but according to the way it looks on the map, it can be found amongst a cluster of trees near a road, so there may not be much of a nature walk there. I plan on going there, one day, myself.

To do this you'll have to be located in close proximity of the ferry or just take the local bus or taxi to the Point Defiance-Tahlequah ferry to Vashon Island and have yourself an adventure! It is Christmas after all!

The closest truck stop I have found to get to this mystery is Flying J. off of I5 in Fife. The whole trip is about 21 miles. There are two other ferries near West Seattle with truckstops around Tukwila, South Park & Georgetown.

Even if it isn't Christmastime, it might be fun checking out the island any time of the year.
*Little ones without much of an attention span might have a hard time sitting during the story, but you could give them a fidget toy or long lasting lollipop to help curb the wiggles. Maybe just getting them to pay attention to the "important parts" would be enough to gain their interest in what you'll find on the island.

 

ParkRanger, geocaching sounds like fun! I heard of a few spots around here where little treasures where placed.

I do like to check out the different areas in detail before trekking out. So, doing this is mainly for fun, & for hopes that I'll get out there and check out some of them up-close!

That is very smart Zero. Could you park your truck at a truck stop and take another mode of transportation to the motel? Or is this against policy/or your own truck?

I know that not all drivers have that luxury, but hopefully if it's something they want, they are able to do it occasionally.
