Hey everyone. I'm seriously considering Millis Transport as the trucking company to start my career with. I have read through every Millis thread I can find and can't seem to piece together exactly what's required before showing up for the class at MTI.

So far all I have been able to confirm is that you must have a CDL Permit (from your home state, in my case Kentucky).

    Is this correct?

What else is required before showing up for class. I'm sure it's probably covered in the various packets of information that Millis will send me if I am accepted into their training program but I would like to know upfront what is required.

Thanks in advance for your replies. :biggrin_25519:

Your CDL permit and your DOT physical. Give Millis a call and they will tell you everything. You will also have to send in $100 before they will reserve you a place in class.

    Thanks for the quick reply.

I knew I was missing a piece to the puzzle .. lol. Now it makes sense. Do they pay for the DOT physical and set an appointment up for you with a local doctor or are you responsible for making the arrangements and paying for it?

I already read about the $100 to reserve my place in class, plus the $400 due on the first day of class so I already knew about that requirement.

So to recap, the 3 things needed before starting class are:

    1) CDL Permit
    2) DOT Physical
    3) $100 to reserve my spot, then $400 for the first day of class

Previous or current Millis students please feel free to add to this list if I have missed anything or need any additional information about those 3 things.

I do have a couple more questions. Are you assigned your own truck with Millis that you take home during home time or is everything done out of a Millis terminal?

Thanks again in advance to anyone who replies to my questions. :biggrin_255:

Once you get in touch with Millis they will send you a DOT long form, you will have to get the physical yourself, as far as I know they do not reimburse you. Do a search for DOT physical in you area, most of the little walk in clinics or your family doc can do the physical.

All you need to get into the MTI class is DOT Physical which you pay for ( they pay for the rest )
Class A permit or Class a
    $100 to reserve a spot.

Once your reserved they will send you a info packet with what you need to bring to class.

Thanks! I really appreciate your replies. I'm sure there's a place nearby that can do the DOT physical. I just wasn't for sure if I had to pay for it or if Millis set it up.

Now that I think about it I should have already realized that a DOT physical was required before going to class because you must have already completed and passed a DOT physical before you can even get your CDL permit. Or at least that's the way it is in Kentucky.

Thanks again for all your replies. This forum really is great!! :biggrin_255:

once you get done with all of your training they assign you a truck and that is yours. we do not share trucks you can take it home or leave it a terminal if you live close to one.

Thanks. That's what I was wanting to know. I live in the southeastern most corner of Kentucky. Right where Kentucky, Tennessee, and Virginia meet. So I didn't know if there was a terminal close by. Was a little worried about having to work out of a terminal away from home.

I just put in my application with Millis today. How long does it usually take to get a response? I've read that if you're accepted they will mail you a letter with a telephone number that you need to call as soon as you get the letter to confirm everything I guess. Is this correct? What if you're not accepted? Do they not tell you or do they send you a letter explaining that as well?

Thanks again for your reply. :biggrin_25519:

They will let you know if you get accepted or not. It ussually takes a few weeks so they can check all your information out. If you do not hear anything in two weeks I would call and ask just to make sure they did get your application. Where you are at it is a little closer to trenton OH but not much farther on down to cartersville GA

Thanks for your reply. I plan on going to the Cartersville, GA location. It's almost exactly the same distance. I think maybe only a few miles difference. I just enjoy driving south more than I do north so Ohio is out. Not that I don't like Ohio or people from Ohio, I just have never liked traveling to Ohio. I've spent most of my adult life driving around Tennessee and Georgia so it's just a better fit.

Thanks again for your reply. Your input is greatly appreciated! :biggrin_25519:
