Depends on how much you want to spend how worried you are about reliability and how careful of a driver you are.

Don't know about getting to the top of the hill but I can tell you which will get you to the bottom of your pockets first

Put it this way. I know a guy that has a big Pete with the big caterpillar with the big Power. When we began to discuss rebuilding the engine right there on the spot he was just about ready to let out of big tears because of the big money he's going to have to lay out for that big nonsense. And that's a guy that has plenty of money. Seems like a waste to me.

Look for the motor that you want. Then find the truck that's nice that has that motor.

The n14 is the same basic engine but is the electronic version of the big can.

Run it every week. So far it's been good to me. I get the same job done with my bucket of bolts I built with my 2 hands, as the man who bought a brand new truck. And don't need a high rent computer to tell me what's wrong with it. :)

As far as who gets to the top of the hill first...... Cat vs Cummins..... depends on more than just the engine. Transmission / Diff's play a big part.

And then you have the driver.... or should I say "The Gambler". The man / woman behind the wheel, needs to know when to hold, and when to fold.

Pulling out shortly for Virginia, y'all be safe out there.

Man, that's classic. So true. When those EGTs get up, one better be lifting. Unless he wants to be UNfolding that wallet!

We have FL with a Cummins 400, and a FL and Pete with a 3406b. Stock, the Cummins will out pull the Cat. When you start tinkering with them though, seems you can get more power easier and more reliable with the Cat.
