Hello i am going to be taking a job with a company that uses older 2004 freightliners with eaton fuller 10 speeds with Detroit motors. I was trained on a 04 international with cat 550 in school. I usually shifted low gears around 1000 rpm and high range around 1500. Will that work for the detroit

In my experience, Detroits like being wound up a little higher.

Too many variables. Just drive it and feel it out.

I up shift in low range about 13 and high range at 14 usually wind it up to 15 to go into 10th downshift iat 1000 is ok and it won't shift fast about a second between getting it out of gear and into next one .... those rpms is what Detroit recommend for fuel mileage .. there some variables as to weight of load uphill or downhill .... up higher down lower but doesn't take long to learn

Usually 1500 is the sweet spot

Is it a pre-egr? If so, low range is good at around 1,000. 6th, start winding it to about 1,300 and wind it about 100 more each gear. By the time you're shifting into 10th, you'll want to be picking it up at least at 1,300. On a 10 speed that would mean no less than 1,700 in 9th.

If it's a 14, then you can shift it more like your cat.

No idea about egr. All i know is he has a 95 and 04 freightliner both with detroit motors and eaton 10 speeds. So low range is 1k high range about 1500 and up. Any advice on floating. In school i did a hybrid type shift clutch into neutral then just shift regular

The RPMs drop only as fast as you let them. You don't have to jump off and onto the throttle ya know. Ease off only as far as you need to and ease back on and your shifting will probably improve.
