I just received a citation for not wearing a seat belt in my own car. Should I get a lawyer or fight the ticket? I'll have one year experience next month.

Up here you get 3 (7 points you are unemployable usually)points on license and insurance increases. What effects are there in your area.

You have a CDL, and it does not matter what vehicle you are driving.
The violation is the same. It would be the same if you were caught driving without a seat belt in your truck.
And I'm wondering what a lawyer could do for you. The officer saw you driving without a seat belt.
If the officer shows up in court, you are toast. -
Either you were wearing your seat belt or you weren't.
Obviously you weren't, so that's why you received a ticket.
Next time wear your seat belt.
If you weren't wearing your seat belt in your personal vehicle, it means you probably don't wear it in the commercial vehicle.
Bad habits are hard to die, but maybe now you'll start wearing your seat belt from now on.
Getting a lawyer is a waste of money, pay the fine and move on.Dumdriver, Puppage, Moosetek13 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Take an online safe driver course, get your completion certificate and take 3 points off your license. Ticket will remain, but 3 points will go bye bye. And wear the seat belt.

Seat belt tickets don't affect your license do they? I was always told not and I'm pretty sure in south dakota it's the cheapest fine you can get.

You can't take safety courses if you have a CDL. An attorney might can help. If it's a small town he probably knows the DA pretty well, and since it's not that bad of a ticket it could be dismissed. Where I live the dismissal is higher than the ticket. Revenue rules!

Im not to sure. When I called an attorneys office the assistant told me that I wouldn't get any points on my license and it probably wouldn't show up on my bmt. I feel like that isn't true but is there some truth to that?

I've never heard of seat belt being any sort of violation that affects your license, it's like a parking ticket.
