Guess you really did not read what I wrote. That is what I earn after all my expenses. I am covered as far as medical. VA. Medicaid.

I absolutely did read it. And you left out the costs that an employer incurs in addition to wages. Are you including paid vacation time in your expenses? How about the additional retirement an employee would get through matching 401k funds? What about true workmans comp? For medical you use the VA. I suppose that works but in reality it only pushes the costs from the business onto the tax payer.

just add the cost of the va to the cost of freedom ... all things considered I think it's a good deal ...... at the mega carriers I think most make out better than a new company driver and I agree with you there is a lot more to pay then just the final amount on the check and it's not a very good way to get a truck payed for but it is a little better experience than just being a company driver and most of the company's treat the lease guys better. .... I totally advise against it .. and these guys leasing a truck right from training are just plain stupid. .. need to learn to drive somebody's else truck. .... I own my own truck and have plenty in a maintenance account so it's easy for me to say don't do it ...... but don't do it lol

I totally agree. Back when I was with Swift I would see newbies with less then 1 year driving experience hurry and lease a truck and then most of them would fail. This is not my first rodeo. I actually did complete a lease with Swift and then got a new truck after 4 years, and then 2 years later saw the writing on the wall and walked away. As far as vacations, I put away so much a mile every week into a separate account that covers my truck payments while gone and then some for me, and fly to the Philippines every 4-5 months for 2 weeks. As far as retirement, I have that covered also. Have for years. I am not some newbie here. All that I was trying to say in some of the lease programs that I have seen here, this is one of the best that fits me

Give Overbye Transport a look, been here 8 years and have seen a bunch of folks finish their
payments and then get ownership of the truck, $2000 down, $437 per week, 2.5 years ago on a 2012.
is what I am doing, are bound to run for Overbye, or pay bal. in 30 days, is through Harrison Freightliner.
in Mankato, MN. Not Overbye. But a used truck is exactly what it is, you know how the story goes, if
you're really looking it doesn't hurt to talk to them, all owner/op, not familiar with what they are offering
in that regard at this time.

If it works for you and you are including those hidden costs in your numbers that's great. Cant fault a guy for doing what works for him.

I don't subscribe to the idea that former military should get free health care for life. Wounds sustained in battle? Absolutely. Ptsd treatment? Absolutely. But for a guy to go to the va on the tax payers dime 20 years after he gets out every time he needs adr for illnesses and injuries that had nothing to do with gos time serving? No. As far as I'm concerned that's just another form of state provided welfare.

I will tell you that even though I have the VA, have not been for years, and it was still involved in what happened in military. As far as other things, I have a regular doctor. As far as things like flu or whatever, then just a phone call and he decides if needs to see me and most of the time, nope, he just calls in a script. Now as far as that .70 to .75/mi, that is what I net after all of the truck expenses. They take out .06/mi for maintenance cost, and that is figured in the expenses and also they take out workers comp. I pay myself .50/mi and all the rest hits the bank accounts and my retirement

Is it really workmans comp oor is it occ/acc? Nothing wrong with occ/acc, i use it myself. Just be aware that it doesn't offer any where close to the same protection as normal workmans comp.

you should be fine ... that's not For everyone but neither is what I do .. as far as the va goes I do that too now didn't when I was younger and most guys you see going are viet nam guys or older I am 60 now and one of the few places I can go and feel young . unfortunately I think the percentage of veterans is about 6% of the younger population compared to about 85% of the world war 2 aged guys ..and Spider that's part of the deal when you sign up or get drafted it is not any type of welfare it is a benefit for services rendered .the only reason this country became free and stay free this means a lot to me and obviously to bisqueak the va is nothing to be ashamed of ... not serving in the military might be .. that's the first time I ever heard of someone calling the va welfare .... not suprising though with the way younger people are anymore ..... you haven't seen what the cost of freedom is and it's plain to see you haven't earned yours but that's ok the people that came before bought it for you and the guys who are serving now are keeping it that way
