I worked for West Side before my present job. Sure they pay more by the mile. But if you like short runs and about 1700 miles a week, this job is for you. I couldn't make any money. The more you sit, the more you spend.

I worked for WS back in 2000 and 2001. Good luck in ever getting home. Was out 5 weeks once and I put in for hometime the day I got in the truck, was 50 miles from the house and they wanted me to deadhead 10 hrs away from the house. This went on for 16 months straight. Needless to say, I finished the run, went back to CR, turned in the truck and got a bus home. I would not recommend this outfit to anyone.

I worked for West Side for 4 yrs. Anyone considering them, I will share the facts about the company.
1. If you don t live in the Midwest,Mid Atlantic,or Northeast, don t waste your time.
2. West Side hauls alot of heavy freight.
3. If you get a load to Cedar Rapids, get in and get out ASAP. They will track the trucks by satellite in the yard,or ride around the yard, and ask you to come inside to safety and compliance.
4. Make sure you send your hours update before you take off in the morning, or you will not be preplanned.
5. If their trucks still run 70 mph. Do not run it wide open the whole time. The fuel incentive software will turn the trucks back automatically, and you will be routed to Cedar Rapids to safety, and while you re in Safety, they will go in your truck and clear out the ECM history and you re stuck with a 60 mph truck.
6. If you get caught going over 80 mph downhill, you will be routed to Cedar Rapids to talk to Safety, the 2nd time you re fired.
7. Their customer base is Hon,Lowe's, P and G, Whirlpool, Pepsico, just a name a few.
8. West Side will bend over backwards to get a Midwest driver home, if you live anywhere else and need to get home, you can be 45 minutes from the house and they will make you go 100 plus miles the other way to get a load then come through the house
9. Most of West Sides dispatchers are old CRST,Heart Land Express, and GSTC dispatchers.
10. Watch out for the Safety Director, he will ask you the same question 10 times in a row, and in compliance they track the trucks movement down to the second.
11. Avoid Cedar Rapids especially on the weekends, you may be stuck there all weekend or you may have a 300 mile run to do by Monday. And by the way, Cedar Rapids is a dead town day and night -
I currently work for Westside. Like lipweed805 said, you get good miles one week but crappy miles the rest of the month. They provide top pay, as long as you avg 2300+ miles/week. But trying to get those miles is hard. I'm OTR but mainly do regional hauls, alot of 300-400 mile loads. Nothing to be excited about. Their planners need help on how to schedule drivers so we can get the most miles for our time.
I do get home every 2 weeks like I want so that is good. The health insurance is good too. Everyone at the office is very friendly and my dispatcher is a good guy too.
Good luck! -
