I did the same thing. Most of what I learned after tons of reading I learned right here on these forums and wasn't surprised by much when I finally started, because I've read it all already and was ready for it.

So far I am enjoying the job. After the long hours of driving and working, I can enjoy a movie on my phone and just be glad I didn't have to deal with office politics all day.

My company uses recruiters and have not regretted my decision at all. Chinatown recommended the company to me. My position requires I load my own truck with a partner, but the checks have been great! Had a lot of reservations about the account when I started, but once I got paid, OK I'm good with this. lol

If you want to be out 5-6 days a week look into ltl sleeper teams. 1200 a week being gone a week at a time isn’t crap IMO. YRC, UPS,Old Dominion all have sleeper teams. That’s the best way to make good money being a new driver. I know YRC has a school out of Hammond, IN. I got my CDL with YRC and I jumped on a sleeper team bid and made some good money. I’m pretty sure even OD trains now, not sure about UPS Freight.

I have been in the industry just over two years, started on the Van side and was taken "care-of". Took a short-hiatus and then came back into industry in the flatbed side. I will be truly HONEST, Jones Bro Trucking (Missoula) is only "OK" for those entering the industry from the "ground-up" 9(e.g. getting your license).

There are many things they do NOT pay for and a great deal of "out-of-pocket" expenses.A big reason many drivers are still with them is that they do not have a "great driving record". I recently found a company that has a veteran's hiring preference and though I didn't have a lot of "flat-bed" time they brought me onboard and have taking care of me from Day 1!
