He means leased to a company not a lease purchase.....big difference there bud. Leased to a company can be a good thing especially if they have good lanes and steady customer base. My dad makes out very well being leased to a small 20 truck operation. He's reinstating his authority and putting me in another truck and to start out were still gonna pull with his current carrier doing power only to start at least. He gets solid rates now so having his own #s will net us a little 15% more than what he gets now
About to purchase my own truck.

What do you do for a living now ?
Are you a driver or are you a business person ? -
landstar is a good place to start out at and is a good place to stay for some people ..... it's kinda hard to start out with your own authority before you get to know the buisness better it can be done but very hard and very doubtful you will net any more money. . you aren't sure what is a good rate or a bad rate on a lane ... and more importantly doesn't know who pays on time and who you have trouble collecting from

I drive now for a company

Ok great you have the driving down. Why do you want to buy a truck ? You dont have to answer me if your uncomfortable about the ? But think about it ?
What are the 3 biggest reasons you want to purchase and own a truck ?
1)
2)
3) -
1. I would like to work for myself and I feel that I would be ok with something I'm familiar with and I also enjoy doing.
2. Of course the money and being able to provide for my family and be able to give my family the things I didn't have.
3. Just wanting to see my hard work pay off for me for a change. Tired of living and working someone else's dream. Why not live my own. -
The business side is if you break your leg and can't drive for several months, or you have a wreck and can't move freight.....who makes the payments? They don't stop.Last edited: May 29, 2018
dunchues Thanks this. -
alflack helps ... can find a driver best not break your leg ..... actually don't worry about too much bad things happening save as much money as you can and deal with things as they come up you can work your self up to an ulcer or worse and bad things can happen no matter what you are doing for a living ... better to have some cash when you start and start saving from day 1 .... I probably had between 2000 and 3000 left after I got my first truck but made it through ok and I am on my 4th truck now and it's paid for just like the other 3 were .. I heard guys say you need 30000. up to 75000 to start out on and the more the better but I think most of the owners out here started out with less than 10000 ... takes a few breaks here and there a little luck ... but you always can go back to being a company driver

that would be an issue regardless if he is a O/O or a company driver? can you do unemployment or disability if you are an O/O?

Hope for the best - prepare for the worst. I do that so I dont have to get ulcers worrying about "What if".otterinthewater Thanks this.
