Every comany with a bad label on it will eventually turn itself around. I enjoyed working for Swift, and would go back when the time is right...

 

Wes, I really don't envy management's job of balancing particularly in these times. I appreciate the good info you share.

This is not what I enjoy going through myself. I had Jerry at my terminal yesterday. He is also feeling that it will be atleast 2 quarters before we start seeing some life again in the industry. That is a long time that I am not looking forward to. Only good news is he belives oil will be under $30 a barrell within 30 days. Everyone take care.

You're tellin' us something I wonder if many drivers are considering. It seems many drivers are blaming all their woes on the truckin' companies, as though the truckin' companies are doin' fine, and for whatever reason(s) they can imagine, the truckin' companies have just decided to screw their drivers.

What I think they're not imagining is how hard it is for a truckin' company to plan ahead when thangs are changin' day by day. Shippers and receivers have cut back and/or gone out of business. They were customers that the truckin' companies depended on to keep their fleet rollin' and turnin' a decent profit.

Such customers were depended on to load backhauls to get their drivers out of certain areas. With freight goin' in, to service customers still in existence, by contract agreements signed, and must be fulfilled ----
And NO freight comin' out (Think Florida) causes drivers to be required to sit, and wait for the few loads available. Four loads and ten drivers sittin'--- with more on the way --- can be frustrating for both the drivers AND the truckin' company.

I think it's time for the drivers to open their eyes and gaze upon the bigger picture. I don't think it's always the case of a truckin' company dumpin' on their drivers. Big trucks sittin' don't generate revenue. It makes no sense to me why any truckin' company would knowingly want that to happen. Or not do their best to correct that situation ASAP.

Big truck truckin' companies aren't non-profit entities. They depend on profits to keep their doors open and drivers, support staff, and owners alike, makin' money.

I think that the truckin' companies with the better front offices and personell therein, will weather the economical storm better and still be standin' when the skies clear.
And I think Swift has a head start compared to some of the other truckin' companies in that respect.

It's my opinion that if drivers who find themselves whinin' would investigate further, ----
Learn the facts and the truth of the matter, ----
They might just find that they're better prepared to accept what is, -----
And DEAL with it in a more mature way.

Now, this is just an assumption on my part, -----
But I'm thinkin' that the various truckin' companies will remember their loyal employees and drivers who cowboyed-up, stuck it out, and helped the truckin' company --- and themselves --- get over and past the rough daze we're now encountering.

With SOooo many newBees, and others, who only seem to remain with a truckin' company for a few months, their names are forgotten. But if a driver remains longer, it stands to reason that THEIR name(s) WILL be remembered, and the memory will be a good memory.
And that would depend on the drivers and how they relate and respond to the truckin' company.
In a word ---- their ATTITUDE(s).

No doubt, now-a-daze, it will take a tad longer to
"succeed" than it has in the past. Folks need to realize that goin' in and/or remaining in, the truckin' industry.
Those who expend the extra effort(s) are more likely to be successful in the end.
Those who instead choose to whine and complain, .....
Well, ......... how far do ya'll reckon they'll get?

All in all, it's up TO y'all to make the difference.
Those who can, ...... will.
Those who can't, ...... won't.
As someone has already mentioned ---
It AIN'T rocket science here.
It's more like common sense.
Think about it.
That's all I/we ask.
