No one's been sent home so far but that may be changing cause two guys bought beer tonight, and another guy isn't taking orientation very serious

Dont worry about them. Hopefully you can get a mentor right away. Glad things are going good for you.

Took me two weeks. Went through three mentors before one actually showed up to pick me up. The first two immediately asked on the phone if I was an experienced driver or a rookie. When they found out I was a rookie they made up excuses - "can't get a route back to Atlanta". They were just looking for the easy money without any risk or effort. Experienced drivers still had to go out with a mentor for two weeks and the mentor got paid for all the miles they drove. Mentoring a rookie meant risking their truck and having to do some actual training.

If you don't get a mentor at orientation you'll get someone's phone number. When you call be sure to ask if he has a pre-plan back to Decatur yet. If you start getting excuses don't wait. Call compliance and ask for another mentor. Most of the mentors at Swift do nothing but rookies, so don't get hung up for two weeks like I did. Decatur does orientations every week so if there were mentors waiting for trainees this week, there will be some next week.

Do they pay while you wait or get you a ride home to wait. I can't afford to wait

No. No pay while waiting. I think they pay trainees differently now BTW. I got about $450 per week during training. That was it.

I had my car there, so I just went home and waited there.

Really they don't pay you, they have changed up the pay. Orientation facilitator said they pay as long as you are available to work

Nope. They didn't pay me while I was waiting. You have to understand the way trucking companies treat their drivers varies quite a bit depending on how badly then need drivers. In 2010 you could fill out fifty applications and be lucky to hear back from one or two. Nowadays they're more hungry so they treat you a little bit better.

What are they paying trainees now? Back In 2013.. swift pay was your state minimum pay plus 1 dollar for driving and minimum pay for being on duty.
Trainees had to do 240 hrs of driving before they can Go solo. Is that what swift is doing still?
