Some of the honest estimates of how many drivers will be needed are estimations based on straight line projections of today. For example, my business is growing 4% per year and we ship 90 truckloads per week. Do the math and you conclude we'll need 94 loads per week next year, 97/wk year 2, etc. etc. etc. Industry groups and numbskull journalists will only notice the projection that accumulates the estimation from whole industries over a long enough time to reach an eye-popping number. It's like saying it was 68 degrees when I woke up, 74 degrees when I got to work, 83 when I ate lunch. At this rate it will be 200 degrees by the weekend.
One reason we had a housing bust in 2008 was key people were estimating housing demands based on projections that assumed the "hair on fire" rate of home buying would continue forever.gokiddogo Thanks this. -
