I Just purchased a brand new carrier comfort pro apu and had it installed on my 2017 Volvo 730.
I am now sitting In Amarillo, TX , its only 90 outside, but the apu is having trouble keeping the sleeper below
75 with both the windshield and bunk curtains closed. My question is, is this normal for a carrier, because if it is, I just wasted $9500. What's it going to do when it gets really hot out.
Am taking it back to the dealer next week, but was wondering what others with the carrier think and how cool will it keep your cab?

I thought Carrier stopped making APUs a few years ago? I have a ThermoKing, been running them from the first generation, I have a brand new Evolution, just recently installed a few months ago. What I do know, when on blacktop and it gets up near 100 degrees or more outside, I would go get a room if having to sleep during the day. These APUs are nice, but only so nice. You are sitting in a tin can, tin cans get hot sitting on an asphalt or concrete burner. Find some gravel and some shade, or get a room.

It might be low on freon. It should freeze you out.

No Carrier is still making them. I understand after being out here along time that it gets hot in a truckstop parking lot. That being said, I think that for the money a new apu should be able to keep a truck cool when it's only 90 outside. I'm hoping that it's as simple as being low on Freon. will find out next week. Really hoping others with the carrier can chime in on how well theirs work.

I had to take mine back twice for little things, it could just be the Freon is low, or something along those lines. I just know in Phoenix in the summer, the truck could not even keep up.

@tuckerthetrucker get infrared thermometer and measure the temp of air that comes out from duct. Must be intake temp minus 40. So if 90F air goes inside (intake of evaporator) from cab air must come at 50F from duct . If it's higher than 50F the a/c part of apu is malfunctioning. I don't think it has low Freon inside. Most likely expansion valve is not functioning correctly.

The Carrier Comfort Pro is certainly capable of dealing with those temps. I'm assuming you have the AC setting on high (although that only changes the fan speed).
Is it giving any error messages on the control panel? Does the condenser fan cycle on and off, or does it run with the AC not in operation, or does it not run at all? Also check to ensure it's plugged in... those use the crappy weatherpack plugs (which I'm not a fan of), and those can be a bit iffy).
I'd talk about going through and checking the CECU, but I don't think I'd do as well to talk you through it as I would to show you. However, if you take that cover off, you'll see some visible lights indicating various systems in operation... check to see which ones come on with the AC running.
There's a fuse on the back of the housing, at the top... regular sized fuse, 25 amp IIRC. But I believe if that blows, you get no function at all from your heat or AC. Still worth checking, as well as the lights in the control module at the back of the housing.
I'd post photos for you if I could, but I only work one day a week at the shop where I deal with those, and today is a day I'm at my regular job, instead.

Thanks for the info guys. I may just have been expecting too much cooling from an apu. The ac is def working just cant keep the cab temp from creeping up during the daytime hours. will have it checked out next week at the dealer.

    WOW....y'all got money to burn...lmao

    I have a $600 generator/invertor + $200 portable a/c, in my $10K 1998 volvo and it stays 72-74degrees in 90 degree days easy.

Anyways, let me get back to adjusting my paper-logs, so I can go snag the next load... adios!

my 10 year old Carrier ComfortPro APU was dropping 35-40 degrees easy in sunny days. Something is wrong with his APU.
