It is not the responsibility of the company to offer you shower reimbursement. It is your responsibility to take and pay for a shower on your own. Now most if not all the Swift terminals have "FREE" showers, that they offer you,as a benefit for working for them. They don't have to offer you that either. I never asked for a shower reimbursement, when I worked for Swift. Why, because I had plenty of points on my cards to get a shower or I paid for them. They gave me my first start in the industry so that was more important to me than getting money back on on my shower. If I was at or going by a terminal and needed a shower, then I stopped and took one..
I really amazes me how many drivers get pissed and bash a company over pity stuff. If you have a real complaint then so be it. But most of the time, newbies don't give a company enough time to see how they really are to work for..
In the economy you should be thankful for even having a job, even if it doesn't pay much.

Since I'm new to this site, somehow I missed a LOT of the posts (well, until tonight that is! lol) but after reading all of them, I just want to say THANKS for ALL of the replies I got. They were all very helpful.
My son is planning to attend Swift's school in TN. Mar. 9 09. As I have said, he took his written CDL and passed it with flying colors on his first try. He has checked (even with the local co. his brother drives for) with various companies in our area to see if he could get his training through any of them .... and even though they know his brother (very well) and they know him, none of them were able to take him up on his efforts. There are a few truck driving schools in our area, but the LEAST they want is 6500.00 and there's just NO WAY. They want that (of course) all upfront. Swift has been his best bet. After reading lots of GOOD things about Swift, I as his Mom feels a bit better about it. I'm just sad for all the trucking industries, as I feel it's a shame that the economy has to take such a chunk out of all of you that work SO hard to keep our trucks out there rolling, being away from friends and FAMILY, having to give it your best driving skills, quick thinking to keep from running over all of us "dummies' that get in your way more often than not! And then, not getting paid any where NEAR what all of you are worth. Hopefully, things will make a turn around and SOON! THEY HAVE TO!!!
Is there ANYONE out there that will possibly be going to Swift's school on Mar. 9th? If so we would LOVE to hear from you... And, also to the person that wrote me on this post that is attending the school in Tennessee this next week, please tell us what you experience while you are there! We'd REALLLLLY love to hear from you!!
Once again, thanks to all the posts.... they were ever so helpful!
Stay SAFE out there on that road! And I'll look forward in chiming in here!!

I agree regarding the showers but that was in writing as well. I also feel there are other areas that coul and shouldbe cut. I wonder if people in the office are taking pay cuts. The work to save should be shared by all in the company. I don't mind helping the bottom line but would feel better about it if everyone was doing there part. In fact, the cuts should first come in the office because those folks still get to go home every night while the drivers are giving up that opportunity (I know it is by choice for the job).

Like I have said, the shower reimbursement was nice but it doesn't make or break a company. I would hope that most would say like your last line, "At least I have a job."

No, dawgone! His date is supposed to be Mar. 9, 09.... PLEASEEEEEE if at all possible, let me know how you are doing! I'll do my best to keep up and watch for you! BEST OF LUCK TO YOU! Thanks again and I hope to keep hearing from you! -
SheilaMAE. Merritt Island is where the Shuttle takes off. My house is so close to the tower that you can feel the ground shake and the windows rattle.
