    Because labour laws don't exist....

I've worked for unions before in retail and security. Everyone gets the same raises regardless if they deserve it or not, and those who are underachievers are hard to get rid of because the union protects them.

It's not a problem that I feel this way, because I couldn't work for a company that treats me like everyone else, giving me no reason to bust my hump to get the job done. If I don't feel motivated to do my job, then why do it?

I'll just add a bit of wonder to this thread. Seems to me The Smasher used to be 14% back when it first opened. Then after a few years it became 12%. Stayed that way for the longest time. Then all of sudden recently it became 8%. Gee they plow so "good" that eventually it'll be flat. lol

So it wasn't just my imagination? I was absolutely sure I remember seeing 12% signs, but all I saw on my last trip was 8%.

If so, this is good news for my dementia diagnosis. ;)

8.5 percent is the average over 10 kilometres. The actual final climb is closer to 12 percent.

Gee that's why you take a slow roll up to the shed then see the hill take a sharp angle up. Most guys, even trains, don't have to drop down to 3rd and 2nd on an 8%. So I call bull on the hill being 8%. I've done it in all sorts of trucks over the years, with all sorts of power and gears and torque. The only one I could be in 7 direct at the top was my last truck. The specs you see in my tag line lol
And that was with a maxed tridem.

There's plenty of 8 percenters all over BC. The smasher I guess is a metric 8% lol

    What’s the point of that?

To limit the potential for intimidation?

Super Test north of Fort McMurray is a 7%. The Smasher is definitely steeper.

The coq was a toll road for most of its life after a few studies they dropped the heavy toll because the alternative route is a very twisty road with pinch points on it ... the accident rate was high and rumours were the heavy traffic was causing a lot of slides into the Frasier river.. I think by making the coq look a bit less intimating they figured more companies would allow their trucks on it
