Why do so many Americans hate European trucks?

Scania in the UK are a the most expensive by a long way. Had a 8x4 in March 450hp with retarder and Durobrites with auto box at £107k that includes 2 years repair and maintenance. A friend just bought a Daf 8x4 with similar spec but only with the engine brake and he said it was £20k less. I hear a Volvo 8x4 is around £97k. Scania seem to be selling well even with that price premium. The 450 is scr only so no exhaust going back thru the engine. I have previously had new MANs and Renaults and they were forever going back to the dealers. The 2 Scania we run just seem better made. In the quarries around here very few Dafs are used despite a good dealer network and competitive pricing.
The best truck I run is a 2006 Foden that I drive myself. Basically a Daf cab and front axle, Cat C12 @450 ZF 16sp box Meritor axles on Hendrickson rubber suspension. The spec is just perfect for tipper work but Mark Piggot decided he didn’t want any Fodens clogging up the Daf plant at Leyland in 2006.

 

EGR is going to be disappearing everywhere very soon. Its no longer needed now that SCR technology is getting better.

 

Price with tipper or just frame?

Which do you prefer?
The older big box or the small onebox?
My '15 has the big box but in '17 they went to the smaller 1box with the introduction off the "new" model.

 

It is funny to see that what our american members call cool interior with gauges and that boring steering wheel

 

Real Steering wheels only need 1 button.....
