I think a wrecker company using a DTU ( Detach Unit ) like the Zack lift or even a Tru Hitch would still charge between $4 to $6 a mile as the chances of a back haul would be slim. Maybe a road tractor with a Pro Tote 5th wheel wrecker could be a cheaper alternative. I know some places do rent the 5th wheel wrecker for about $250 a day, but to tow a straight truck from the front would require some one with towing experience to do the job correctly and safely.

Geez, amazing how much effort some people will go through to save a few pennies above doing it the standard way. Throw it on a lowbed and pay the guy...simple math.
