Just something I thought of as I saw a Camper / RV dealer by the side of the highway. In particular the pickup truck camper. It made me think that if my bed was over the cab area the "sleeper" berth area would have a lot of room freed up. It could be more of a living space in the back if a driver slept in a modest sized bunk over the the front of the cab.
Anyway I was just curious if this has ever been tried or if there would be other problems like making it a little less aerodynamic.
Oh well just something I thought of while rolling down I-10.

Freightliner sells a 3 bunk model. That has a sleeper over the cab area.
I'm sure it could easily be modifiedOr ordered with just one bunk.

Yes, it's been done.

next time i see one i will snap a picture -
Yea, I was going to say that there was a company building a fiberglass add-on for COE's that went on the roof, cut an access hole in the sleeper and viola...Penthouse! this was back in the 70's - early 80's...

I saw one a few years ago for sale. It was a daycab with a bed on the fairing portion that would close and open down to give more room. Haven't seen another since.

Calif. used to have alot of them in the 60's and 70's mostly truck trailer combo usually cattle rigs, most if not all I've seen were Freightliners and were all metal. You climbed up thru on the passengers side.
