Would you start up a business in this current economic situation? Do you know what it takes? Do your research... some companies have what you are looking for, others dont. Its confusing and there is no one perfect company.

Remember, Prime doesnt lease trucks to you, its another outfit. I cant remember the name. But one good thing about leasing (from Prime and others) is you can just walk away if something happens. Economy can stop or you could get hurt and you can just walk away from that lease. You cant do that if you were to buy a truck, you would be stuck with those payments until you found a buyer. I guess thats a plus side to the leases out there. It would be risky (my opinion) to lease right now. Drive Safe

Success leasing and they are all in cahoots together. Everything in the building the accountant, all the different businesses are all tied together.

I like that Prime ships food.

People may stop buying T.V.'s and jeans. But Americans love to eat
-
everybody's got to eat one way or the other, food has to be moved to and from somewhere especially frozen.thats my 2cents

More than just in cahoots. Prime and Success Leasing are both owned by the same person.

YOu made the same claim about Burger king elsewhare but the analogy is weak. If I am going to Burger King to flip burgers, no I would not expect to have to lease the grill. BUT, if I am going to be an o/o or l/o where I am going to run a business, I would expect to have to rent office space, pay for a franchise (read here lease a truck), and have all the overhead cost of that business. People like you look at the business model that Prime offers and want to be a glorified company driver who can turn down loads. That is not what it is about. Those that do the research understand that they are leasing a platform from which they can run their own business and, in exchange, Prime offers to provide the freight to help in the success of that business. Prime even points out on their recruiting CD that they are renting you the tool to develop your own trucking business.
And those who pay attention to what Prime tells them are not "unsuspecting". They are told what the model is. Heck, I was told the model and understood it while researching the company. And ask any local small business owner how much hard work goes into making te business go. I have run a small business and know that it is hard work. Yes, if you just want to drive down the highways of America and see the sites and deliver freight every now and then Prime is not the place for you. However, if you are willing to work and run smart, you can make money there. Problem is, too many also want to become an o/o so they can run an ungoverned truck and blaze down the highway. Whenever I have one of those type of o/o's run by me I think, "There goes a lot of green out the stack." -
I am new to this, and do not wish to offend anyone, nor appear to be rude. I am considering make a change of companies. I currently work for Con-way Truckload (16 yrs). I have driven and worked in the office (Ops), so I do know a bit about trucking. What I am trying to learn is a bit about Prime (Flatbed). Looking for straightforward thoughts and accurate info. Basically, I have been reading through the comments, and have found the majority to be from folks that have opions, but may not have driven for the company, or even driven a truck. Basically considering trying my hand at Flatbedding. Thanks

Hope you have something to do between loads. Freight is very slow on flatbed side.

well, this must have been a whille ago this was posted. i just finished a lease with prime and i can tell you that the money was there, no doubt about it. however you really have to work hard and stay out to make it. everytime you take time off its like you get punished for it, and it takes 3 weeks to get back in the groove. forget getting ran in the area where you live. they dont believe in that. trucks are freightliners unless you have been there 2 years, then you can lease a pete, but not a 379. if you want the same thing as prime, and pulling their freight, go with wiltrans. then you can get a pete or kw, and in a year or so the owner will go to peterbuilt with you and co sign for the truck of your choice. thats what im gonna do.
