That's such a different scenario. I think it's wonderful that you can make those arrangements and spend that time with your son.

Some people seem to be missing the fact that this little girl is 5. Not to mention all the other stuff thats obviously WRONG with this, who has heard an insurance company willing to allow in writing, taking a 5 year old in the truck? Didnt Mom just get out of jail if I am not mistaken? She doesnt know her father. Seems taking her away from what she knows, and put in that situation cant be any kind of good, or any kind of comofortable, or fun for this little girl. Why not call Dr. Laura? (yeah, I said it....so what?) Since I cant post a link, search for a L.A radio station called KFI AM 640. She's on weekdays 12p-3p (I think) pacific time.

My son and his wife have custody of their kids. They live with us. But they have nothing really to do with their kids. I have raised the youngest 2, because they act like they don't have kids most of the time. If they leave to go to town they just walk out the door without the kids. If they are going out of state or a couple of hours away they ask me if they can take the kids. They don't even know what the kids eat. The now 7 year old talked and walked for about 3 months before they even knew it. I also don't let my husband take our 14 year old daughter without me. It is not safe. These parents don't know this kid and don't know that you have to watch all the time. I would do the same thing. If the mother just got out of jail is she on probation because if she is, she should not be able to leave the state. They usually can't travel more than 100 miles from home.

I just wanted to give everyone a quick update -

We had a court hearing last week and the judge assigned me 'Temporary Sole Managing Conservator' and revoked the natural parents visitation rights. The temporary status will remain until our next court date which has not been set yet. Our attorney wants to try and resolve the custody issue with the natural parents before next court date allowing for each party to have input into the outcome (such as visitation etc..).

BTW - neither of the natural parents showed up for the hearing.

Again, thank you for your input and guidance.

She is not on probation, she was in on a drug charge (2nd one) and served her entire time.

My kids are all grown up now, but when I was young, I went out over the road a few times I LOVED it.
I have saw families out on the road with babys, and they were in baby seats. Some families even home school on the road. I don't see a problem at all with that. Keeps the government from making Liberal Socialist out of them, a person don't have to go to the shady truck stops even when his kids are with him.

Wiseguywireless - to each his own I guess. But since you brought it up, would you have sent your 5yr old on the road with relatives he/she barely knew (and just released from prison)? Our niece has school, friends at the park, birthday parties, her dog, soccer games; that is what she has known all her life. Being in a truck for much of the day everyday with a couple of strangers...... it just does not sit well with me.
