As far as breaking the law look at my name do you really think thats my main priority?
I for one like to rest when im tired not when my company tells me to. And at 11am i was wide awake,Plus the truck i was driving was acting up. When i had the idle on it would beep loudly( electrical) only while the parking breaks were on and if i used my blocks then the idle would shut down and the truck would turn off and 20min later i would be freezing(2005 columbia). So In the perfect world yes it would be my fault for not sleeping but this is trucking. And i told my company today that if i drive for you i will drive as far as i can. Then i sleep a min of 6 hours, not 2 or 3 regardless of when the load is due. If you got a problem with that! have me leave earlyer or move ur times around.
The extra time it took for the canyon i prob wont be paid for but that fine. I choose not to chain up and not take the shorter way, as by the time i have chained up. It would take me the same amount of time, exept my cowboy hat stays dry.
NO my company pays no extra's for loading. Even if it takes 5 hours. They pay 550 to Edmonton or 500 to Calgary return (from Vancouver). which is aprox 40 cents a mile.
It just dosnt feel worth it anymore. My good friend Kieth Snowman (yes thats his real last name lol) finally quit and is driving limos in town now making $250+ in tips in 8hr day. It feels like the end of a eara i tell ya. He wants me to join him. I get a lotta thinkin done on the road but i can't get my head round this one.

When the USA made drug enforcement part of running down south many drivers had to stay north of the 49th so companies felt they could pay less for work performed up here. What Canada needs to do is enforce drug testing on all drivers over the car license and this will allow those that are clean and just plain want to stay close to the house to enjoy some time off more chances of making more money on these runs.

You will always have bottom feeding companies that want more for less, and by reducing their food chain of drivers they will be forced into paying or driving their own trucks.

I just spent 6 months doing that. If I could have picked up a trailer,
went to calgary, dropped it and went back It would have been a good
job. Unfortunatly, there was the "wait to unload" "wait to load" goto
this place, spend hours getting loaded cause it was loaded overweight,
drive halfway back, then wait around for hours cause the Wal-mart
wouldnt let you switch trailers until a certain time. Never knowing
when you where getting home. Finally just sitting in the terminal until
it was time to go because you didnt wanna spent 15 hours at the Wal
mart and would rather spend all the extra time in a place with TV and
Internet. Believe me, at least in my experience there is a damb good
reason none of those jobs pay by the hour, they are all flat rate or
milage for a very good reason. Keep the town job, at least your time
is valuable to a town company and you are compensated for your wrk
fairly and when you arent being payed your home with your feet up
on the couch. I would kill for a hourly job right now, but I had such a
terrible relationship with the long haul sweatshops a good referance is
    out of the question.
