To whom who cares to read this. I've been reading this forum for about a year, as a visitor, and have finally decided to sign up as a member. I have found this forum very imformitive and very useful. Now here is my story.
I've always loved heavy equipment and trucks since i was a lil one. my grandpa drove truck for a brief period and my uncle's been driving for 30 some years.I worked on a different uncles dairy farm at the young age of 13 until i graduated high school. I got great grades in high school and tried the whole college thing but it just wasn't for me. The summer i turned 21 i saved up enough money to go to a school and get my CDL. I decided not to go OTR and try to get a local job in the small town i grew up in. A week after i graduated i went down to north carolina and drove with my uncle for a month. I got some experience driving a loaded truck and some very useful knowledge from a seasoned trucker.
When i returned home i didn't quite get the truck driving job i was looking for. So now here I sit 2 years later driving an under CDL single axle dump truck and pouring concrete in the great city of detroit.Patiently waiting for my girlfriend to graduate from her nursing program and the economy to pick back up before i sign up w/ one of the bigger trucking companies.
I just really want to thank everyone who has posted on here because it has really opened my eyes to the trucking industry. Looking back i'm glad things went how they did. If i had listened to my trainer i would have signed up with a bigger company and never saw some of the b/s that this website and my uncle had informed me about. Well i suppose i have gone on about myself long enough. I apologize for this being so long but this being my first post and all i figured i would go all out. For those who read all of this thanks and i really look forward to reading more posts and soakin up as much as i can before i become a newbie. thanks and goodnight![]()

At least you're working . Hang onto that nursing school graduate . She's a smart one . Healthcare is about the one occupational field with a positive outlook . Having a job you're fortunate to be able to wait and watch for a good job . It'll show up eventually .

Hey RJ....I just joined minutes ago myself. I am a mom ( I have a son about your age) and I wish the best for you. I came on this site to get some insight, and I too have read some great advice. Several of my uncles were truck drivers (back in the "good ol' days") and my grandfather had his own fleet. If I were a guy I'm sure I would have been a trucker! Now that my kids are practically grown, I'm actually contemplating it. See ya around the site!
