Gotta get mine with new job...

looks like everyone will have to sooner or latter. looks also like if you have hazmat the fee is reduced and no background / finger print required.

I have had mine since last July. The Ports and refineries around the Houston area have made it MANDITORY that you have applied for your TWIC by 01/01/09 and after 04/01/09 you will NOT be allowed entry without it.
I have only been asked twice for mine but am sure after 04/01/09 they will ask for every entry, for awhile. We carry ours just to save the hassle.

That's true if you're not using the hazmat endorsement on your CDL to reduce the TWIC fee by about $28. If you go this route, then TWIC expires with your CDL because of the background check. If you don't go that route, then what you quoted is accurate... that's what I did too.

Same here... I just walked in before Thanksgiving, got the initial interview done in about 45 minutes. Painless. Got the card issued in 30 minutes. Painless.

Not anymore. With the ports being locked up, the slackers are all infesting the TWIC offices, so expect there to be a line when you go - a long one. If not, way cool... you'll be outta there quick!

Just went through the twic process in the Baton Rouge area. If you have to do it search around and try to make an appointment, otherwise get there early and pack a lunch. I was lucky enough to make an appointment, 30 minutes total time in building, and since I already had an active passport it only took nine days to get my call saying that my twic card is ready for pick up.

Google twic cards and the TSA sites that you need will come up. Around here the centers have extended their hours to 6am - 12pm because they are so backed up. I guess I'll have to do the waiting thing to pick it up now. Good luck if you have to get it.

You live in Baltimore? Yes, I would apply for it being near the port. May get your home or get you out if they have a load in there. I live in Florida, pulling flats, and I go to a port occasionally so thats why I got mine. Even while pulling vans I went to ports.

Roehl runs mostly Freightliners, but we still have quite a few Internationals and a handful of Volvos and KWs. Bet on getting a Freightliner though. Most now have APUs, and all have bunk heaters. They are nothing special, but serve their purpose of moving freight.

Miles right now S-U-C-K. No bones about it, freight is slow. I am fighting to get 1500 miles a week. Ithink everybody is feeling it, no matter what you pull. Some not as bad as others, but still pretty miserable out here right now.

PM me if you have anything specific you want to know.

I filled out the paperwork in Oct. and still haven't got mine yet.

I wonder if the fact that I have a CCW would show up on any of these background checks. I don't carry in my truck, but I wonder if they would make a notation on something like TWIC that you have a CCW license. Not something you could see on your TWIC card, but would come up on their computer when they scan you in.

I have a CCW too, but had no problems getting it. I got mine early though, before word really started getting out about them.
