If I worked 12 hours Tuesday had a 34 hour reset Wednesday,
then work Thursday Friday Saturday Sunday Monday Tuesday, let's say I hit 68 hours from the reset
do I get to take the 12 hours from the first Tuesday off for my 70/8 day, giving me 14 hours on Wednesday

Nope. Once you start from a reset the previous day's hours become moot.

That's what I thought, but I read through the rules again and started confusing myself.
    Thanks for the reassurance

After a reset, you should have a full 70 hrs, the day you come back to the clock will be your start point. All hrs used will subtract from your 70.
If you worked 10 hrs a day for 7 days, your hrs will be used up, day 8 would be no hrs to work. You would have to sit for 24 hrs minimum, then on day 9 you would get back the 10 hrs from day 1, unless you go a full 34 hrs, then you get back your full 70. Anything before a reset is not used for your current hrs

Your ELD should tell you if you have hrs.

Just try to drive 10 hours a day, do a 15 minute pretrip, 30 minute break and a 5 minute post trip. Log 5 to load and unload and then log sleeper at shipper or receiver. When it’s time to reset, do the reset. If you’re flatbed, do the reset mid day Saturday, as close to the final as possible on your load. 34 hours later, roll to the final. When I started driving I never wanted to do a reset, because I assumed that since the only way I made money was to drive, that I should always be driving. Turns out, you have more hours to drive in 5.5 days of 10 hour days, that you will if you refuse to reset and some days you have 6 hours, others 11, others 8...

Resets and running a consistent amount of hours as you can will also help when you absolutely need to run recap to handle business. Then you know what time you have coming back, and you have a pretty good idea how many miles you can run in that amount of time.

I still don’t like doing resets, but I see their utility now. At least for me. I could do 10-11 hour days with 10 hours driving for the rest of my life and not need a day off, given no regulations. It’s about the lower limit where I start feeling like I have to drive, rather than I want to drive and I’m enjoying myself.
