Do drivers of the larger companies grease their trucks ? Also are they allowed to adjust their brakes?

Some companies allow you to adjust the brakes.

Most other items are handled by their shop.

Beware the company that includes a toolbox in your truck. Been there, done that.

Some companies allow adjusting the brakes, some expressly forbid it. Greasing the fifth wheel plate is encouraged, otherwise not greasing anything unless you can do it without getting caught, i.e. greasing slack adjusters.

    RJwatertown Thanks this.

Automatic slack adjusters should not be adjusted by drivers . If the adjustment is off the adjuster or some other component is defective . A repair is necessary .

By law you are not allowed to adjust brakes unless certified to do so,HOWEVER,knowing how to could save your life.I encourage all drivers to do a thorough pretrip and if you can go underneath your truck-do.You may be surprised what you find.

Interestingly, here in Canada, an AZ license is considered sufficient certification to authorize a driver to adjust brakes in the province of British Columbia (it's got something to do with those little hills they drove over all the time). I believe there's a reciprocity agreement between provinces, but I'm not sure if there's a federal reciprocity between Canada and the US. Anyone know?
