I just got off the phone with Christine and she said the $1900 covers everything from fees, drug test, testing, housing and some of the tuition of the schools. Then Con way picks up the rest of the bill. I like how they send you to a school instead of a company owned trucking mill school like Swift runs. I think I will be calling swift back and telling them I am not going to be attending their school. Christine is a very busy woman but she is very nice to talk to and she does not BS you on things. I am selling my PS3 and my custom built computer to come up with this money. I should have the money saved up soon.

good luck kmfishing.no doubt your investment will pay off then you can buy 100 ps3's.thats a tad bit cheaper than the $2600 i had to spend and it looks like a cdl mill if I ever seen one.Today we got on the road and got the first taste of double clutching.I stalled a couple times this morning but this afternoon I did a lot better.Tomorrow we hit the mountains and I'm a little scared.People please tell me what to expect. All help is appreciated.

Just a quick question - this Conway Boot Camp with all these tests ect. are they just for the new drivers (from school) or is this required of all drivers regardless of experience..? Other companies we have been with all one had to do was a driving test and a backing test.

    Thanks...:biggrin_255:

I believe that the experienced guys just have to take a road test and different obstacle course, the boot camp is just for the newbies that went through an independent school.
Also, newbies that go through Crowder do not have to do the additional one week boot camp. Con-Way uses the boot camp to assess and further train guys that went to different schools, but they know the exact curriculum at Crowder and trust those guys to train the students correctly. They said they are amazed that some of the people that show up for boot camp have no concept of driving a big truck; apparently, there are a lot of schools out there that do the bare minimum to get people their CDLs and that's it.
I forgot to add- I believe boot campers and Crowder attendees also get to try out the skid pad. I missed out, as our class was so huge they couldn't work it in to the schedule. Too bad, it looked like a lot of fun.

Yeah, I was quite impressed with her as well. Straight forward, not a lot of schmoozing, and direct answers..... I like that! I have heard a lot of good about Crowder, and I think you are making a good move. Hate to hear you are going to have to sell off some goodies, but hey, in another year, they'll probably have a PS2000 which will make yours look like the old Pong Game. ehehhehe
Well, being as I am not in the same predicament, I don't have a clue. What I have found works well for me though is to try to work it out where someone else goes first. That way, you get to watch someone else do it before you take the wheel. I spent many hours in the back of the truck before I had to drive, and watching others, both good and bad, gave me a wonderful opportunity to have it in my head before I had to do it. As far as shifting goes, the best piece of advice I can give you is one that someone else told me..... treat her like a lady. Don't slam it in to the gear, let it slip in. Fingertip touch. The truck already knows where it is going to shift.... you just have to make all of the conditions right. Speed, RPM, and proper gear. Good luck tomorrow. Let us know how it goes.....
Yeah I have heard the same thing..... It amazes me that a school would allow someone to graduate and the DMV would pass some of these guys..... I am certainly not the best out there, but I am doing everything I can to learn everything there is available to me. Then, once I get out there with a trainer, I'm gonna start learning all over again.

Did you say Skid Pad?!?!?!! <tail wagging furiously>

Where is the Crowder at? I assume that is the school I would go to when I go with ConWay?

Scooter before we got in the truck I told the guys I didn't want to go first and that I wanted to watch at least 2 people go in front of me.Well the instructor gets in and asks who hasn't driven a stick before?Just my luck I'm the only one raising my hand and he says guess who's going first?I tried to pass it on but all the guys punked out!Kmfishing the school I go to is called the America's Driving Force in Atlanta.Ok instructors, crappy equipment though. We had an intersection blocked for 5 minutes yesterday.Funny and embarrassing at the same time.
